Do you think this top would be OK for smart office wear?

I start a new job this week, so I don't yet know the level of smart-ness in the office. But, to be averagely smart, do you think this top would be OK, with navy trousers and nude heels?

Thanks!

I like the top :-) think that's very nice and with your suggested outfit would work a treat, with a jacket too?. Re smartness, what did you wear for interview and what did your interviewers(s) wear when you met them?

Good luck with the new job

I think with the outfit hot suggest it will be fine for a first day unless the company is ultra corporate and requires a suit jacket. Very few seem to these days!

Good luck :)

Yep. I would. Lovely top.

madja · 04/06/2018 17:21

Good luck also Smile

I wouldn't wear it on your first day to be honest, it's lovely but very busy until you can gauge the general atmosphere.

Congratulations on the new job!

*you suggested

Not hot suggest Grin

I think it is lovely, and would certainly wear it to my office but the fact you have specifically put "smart office wear" implies there is a particular dress code, to me, so on my first day I'd probably go for a dress and jacket or trousers and jacket as a suit and suss what other people are wearing / what the expectation is.
90% of offices it would be absolutely lovely, but I'd just want to check out I wasn't starting work at one of the 10% Smile

Well it isn't very professional. I would say that it is smart casual. Fine for a secretary, admin, conveyancer, hr person (unless it is a very corporate company) etc. but not really suitable for a solicitor, accountant, liquidator etc. Unless you know that the office is fairly casual. There isn't really a blanket rule unfortunately. In your place I would choose the safe option of a white tailored shirt and then see what everyone else is wearing and copy.

LightSeaGreen · 05/06/2018 09:45

Thanks all. I wasn't planning on wearing it on my first day, I'm wearing a jacket today. I'll get a chance to scope out how smart it is today then decide.

Racecardriver - it's somewhere between your two sets of examples - so who knows!

One more hour to go! (they're giving me late start on my first day!)

Good luck!

Not a first day top, I would go for something plain, a blouse or a plain top until you can see what everyone else wears

HildaZelda · 05/06/2018 10:44

I think it's a bit casual for a work top, but obviously that depends on what the job is. I suppose just see what everyone else is wearing today and you should have a good idea.

Good luck on your first day :)
