I have this ring with 3 colours of stones each of which has a personal significance for me.

But, every time I look at it, I can't help but think just 2 colours plus diamond would be better than 3 colours. Also the stones look really dark and not sparkly (which I know gems are not as sparkly as diamond, and these are quite small... But even so.).

What do you think? Professional jeweller opinions very welcome!

The setting isn’t going to let a lot of light in so that may reduce sparkle? I think the colours are lovely.

It looks like costume jewellery from accessorize in all honesty which is fine if it is and to be fair is fine if you like it anyway!!

Charliejr16 · 31/05/2018 19:23

I'm a jeweller, if it were me I would lose the green stones and have diamonds set in their place, it will break it up a bit and give some sparkle which I feel it may be lacking - although I can't see from the picture! Gorgeous ring though.

Racecardriver · 31/05/2018 19:26

I think it looks better with the colours it has. As it is it looks quirky. With diamonds it would just look tacky.

Happycow · 31/05/2018 20:08

@Dragon it's definitely not from accessorize 😳. I love the style but the setting doesn't let in much light, that's true.

I've been toying with either replacing one colour with diamonds, or swapping the stones for paler versions (eg. blue topaz instead of sapphire).

But I think i might go with the diamond idea @Charlie... Do you think replacing the emeralds or sapphire would look better?

Pic of the ring in it's box so you can see the setting a bit better

Not a fan. I agree it looks like costume jewellery.

SapphireSeptember · 31/05/2018 20:43

I think it's lovely the way it is OP, I love the colours.

oohyoudevilyou · 31/05/2018 20:46

I think it's pretty and quirky. No, it doesn't sparkle and catch the light like an illusion set brilliant cut diamond but you see hundreds of those - yours is lovely and different, plus the stones have meaning to you.

LivLemler · 31/05/2018 21:04

I really like it, but I love coloured gemstones and have a ruby engagement ring. They won't sparkle like diamonds, but they're not supposed to. I'll be honest and say that if I saw it in person I may not realise it's as expensive as it presumably was. But I'd still love it.

lemonsunshinecake · 31/05/2018 21:47

I love it! It's different and quirky

Happycow · 31/05/2018 22:45

Thank you all. I wanted a simpler (and much cheaper!!) Version of the below but with more meaning and sentiment hence the colours.

I will stick with it for a bit longer before deciding.

Good (sort of!) to see my various thoughts on the ring reflected above!

I think if you want the ring to be predominantly diamonds then replace the sapphires, this will also be more expensive as the stones would be higher. But if you wanted a subtle change, change the emeralds. If it were me I think I'd change the emeralds for just a hint of sparkle, still keeping the vibrant colours!

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 31/05/2018 23:07

I don't think the setting does it any favours at all. If you didn't want to cannibalise this one- given that the colours are sentimental- you could add a shaped accent band with diamonds in it on one side to bring a bit of sparkle over.

I've seen quite a few of these style of rings where the round settings on the bands interlock like stacking rings. It can look very smart done correctly.
