What shall I buy in Rome?

Going on a short break to Rome in two weeks, and wondering what Style and Beauty buys I might look for.
Preferably from shops fairly close to main sights, as I'm holidaying with a friend who's not a fan of trailing round shops.

Lovely leather handbags. I can't tell you the name of the shop but there are loads around the central areas.

Via dei. Cononari is a nice street between the river and leading across to Pizza Navona. It used to be the road that all the pilgrims walked down en masse often getting crushed on the way.
Luckily now it has lots of nice little shops ( boots, bags, anitiques and a famous ice cream place) but nothing too overwhelming and pedestrianised but not too busy street . I might have come back with a number of pairs of boots at less than €30 for quirky beautiful Italian leather.
There are lots of shops with bargainous clothes etc down buy the Ponte Sisto. Underwear is good as it doesn't take up too much room and they have some lovely designs.
Also lots of glittery jumpers. Sound horrid but look good on, useful for British weather and dead cheap over there.

It's not central but when I was last there, Trastevere was a great neighbourhood for independent and vintage shops (and also had lots of cafes and bars so maybe your friend could wait for you there?). Plus a big flea market if you're there on a Sunday.

More centrally Via del Governo Vecchio, near the Pantheon also had mostly independent shops.

As butlers says, loads and loads of leather / handbag shops - some very touristy so probably better to ask for recs.

Shoes! And clothes if you're fairly small and slim-built.

I filled my boots in Santa Maria Novella if that’s your bag.

Want to go back now!

Parmisan, parmo ham and porcini (sorry in not into clothes, leather and bags but love my food!)

Floisme · 30/05/2018 18:49

Yes and what's that other cheese - Pecorino Romano?

DelphiniumBlue · 30/05/2018 18:49

There's a beautiful leather gloves shop by Spanish Steps.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 30/05/2018 18:49

Oh yes peccorino - bloody lovely with honey.

For beauty buys we can't get here, in Termini station there's a Sephora, a Bottega Verde and an Yves Rocher, plus they're open late and on Sundays.

I always get porcini stock cubes (for risotto) when I'm in Italy.

I second Santa Maria Novella. Every time in in Rome or Florence it’s my go-to.
