I very rarely wear dresses as I hate my figure but have a 40th birthday bash to go to in July.

The birthday girl, her friends, and family are all very glam and just a bit posh so I don't think my usual skinny jeans and top will cut it.

The do is at a naice riverside pub and hopefully the weather will be nice.

Would this dress be suitable for a 5'3 size 14 big bellied, big calved pale as the moon 38 yo? Also could I wear it with smartish flat black sandals?

TIA

The Oasis one is available in more sizes on their website rather than the Debenhams one

BigBairyHollocks · 30/05/2018 20:52

There’s a good range of sizes in store too

TheDowagerCuntess · 30/05/2018 21:01

Oh fab, I might order it myself!

emsyj37 · 30/05/2018 21:03

The green Very one is nice. The Oasis stripey one is not my taste but seems a popular choice!
The pattern, pom poms and cold shoulder all in one is too much and won't look posh or stylish. Cold shoulder is for tanned bony thin shoulders only.

cansu · 30/05/2018 21:08

I don't really like it tbh. I am sure you can find better. The bird print oasis dress is tons nicer and looks much more glam and classy.

hipposinacircle · 30/05/2018 21:22

Not the oasis stripe dress. It looks like a drab sack.

Ivygarden · 30/05/2018 21:32

Oasis dress all day long

makeupmaven · 30/05/2018 22:31

I don't like it - sorry, OP. Cold shoulder and pompoms are a bit too 'trendy', not very posh or classy. The model is also not pulling it off too well, so I'm not sure us mere mortals could!

Thanks all of you for your help.

I haven’t been ignoring you I promise, I’ve been at work all evening.

I can’t see all of the links for some reason, only the green very one, which I really don’t think would look good at all —I’d look 8 months pregnant in it—

I think I’m going to keep looking and hope I see something nice, I’m a bit tight on budget too so I am a bit limited but there’s surely something out there.

Thanks again for all of the advice.

The green dress from Very that someone has posted looks really nice, I’d go for that!
The dress in the original OP is hellish, please avoid!
The Oasis dress is nice but I think would only flatter a tall, slim lady - the tie around the waist won’t look great if the wearer has any hint it a belly unfortunately.

Wildlingofthewest · 30/05/2018 23:44

Also OP - to make a dress look it’s best you must be wearing the correct underwear!! Spanx are your friend! Honestly - a good pair of suck it all in knickers and a decent bra transform a dress!

ColinsVeryJolly · 30/05/2018 23:56

Wildling I really don’t look better in suck-it-in underwear. I have a small waist, look very hourglass from the front but my belly is big and droopy. When I put suck-in stuff on it just spreads my belly up and across making me look 2 sizes bigger just less wobbly.

I just want to find a dress that makes normal me look ok, not uncomfortable sucked in, can’t breathe, £70 poorer me Grin
