Let's talk lipsticks.

I'm in that mood again, does anyone want to join me? I recently bought some Urban Decay lipsticks, one of which was from their Mega Matte range, and I was pleasantly surprised. It feels like a matte lipstick when I put it on, but it didn't drag and it didn't dry my lips out (it's Pandemonium if anyone is interested, it's bright purple.) It also lasted ages. I am not so hopeful about the Maybelline powder matte lipsticks I got, but we shall see. I also finally got hold of MAC Stallion, as my quest for the perfect black lipstick continues...

Oo I love a good lipstick thread!
That’s good to know about the UD mattes, I am still working my way through the MAC ones I have before buying anything new. Did you try their liners? Never think of looking at UD for lip products usually. Will have to keep an eye out in future.

At the moment I like the look of the Hourglass refillable lippies but don’t know anyone that uses them.

On a slight tangent I’m getting a lot of use out of the Buxom lip polishes at the moment. Hot toddy is #1 closely followed by White Russian. Wish I was brave enough to pull off black or purple lips, I tend to stick to nudes, although I am on a quest for the perfect red. Any tips are welcome..

ZacharyQuack · 29/05/2018 02:33

I love a good lippie thread!

I've got a weird eye issue at the moment so can't wear eye makeup, so I'm using a lot of bright lipsticks as a distraction from my naked puffy eyelids. I've been enjoying Bobbi Brown Luxe Lipsticks lately. Yesterday was Russian Doll, today is Raspberry Pink. The pink one isn't such a good idea because it's picking up the pink tones in my eye.

stoplickingthetelly · 29/05/2018 06:46

Fab, a lippie thread. I recently bought mac patisserie in search of the perfect nude. It is nice but I'm not sure if it's ever so slightly too brown. I almost bought peach blossom so will probably go back and get that at some point. Keep looking at Chanel Cecile and while it's lovely it's just so expensive. The reviews aren't great so not sure if I can justify the cost.

suze28 · 29/05/2018 09:13

The UD comfort matte range in Backtalk is one of my favourites. I've yet to try Bobbi Brown lipsticks as I have too many UD lipsticks to use up 🙄

stoplickingthetelly · 29/05/2018 16:01

I've got Sandwash pink by Bobbi Brown which is really lovely. Better staying power than some others too. A few weeks ago I bought a No 7 lipstick called sweet copper. I really want to embrace pinky coral shades, but I'm really undecided if I like it or not. Thought this one might be ok because it not too orange. They always seem to look lovely on other people, but I can't seem to get it right.

SapphireSeptember · 29/05/2018 22:50

LesAnya I haven't tried their lip liners yet, I don't really use them in general, but they look nice. RE finding a red lipstick, are you cool or warm toned and what is your hair/skin/eye colour? Also, how brave are you? Grin I probably wear lipsticks that don't really suit me but do it anyway because I like them. In the realm of red lippy bright red and really dark red suit me, as long as they're cool toned. (According to an online test I did I'm Deep Winter and Deep Autumn, which made me laugh, means I can wear black though!)

ZacharyQuack I sympathise, mine isn't a weird problem, it's quite straightforward, hayfever. But my eyes are either sore, itchy or watery at the moment, so no eye makeup for me for a while.

Bobbi Brown lippies look nice but they're over my reasonable Vs unreasonable expenditure for make up. (£20 for a single item is my current limit.)

Ooh, update! The Maybelline lippies were much better than I expected, the lady who runs the Temptalia website wasn't impressed, but I didn't think they were too bad. I have two, Chilling Grey (greyish lavender) was better than Smoky Jade (dark teal,) because that one did drag a bit when I applied it. They're both very pretty colours though, and I'm now tempted to pick up the other three shades. (There's a nude, a muted rose and a dark red.) That was a weird shopping trip, I bought two UD lippies, two Maybelline lippies, and two I ❤ Revolution lip glosses (from their Mermaid collection).

I recently bought a powder lipstick from Clinique. Really good red.

LesAnya · 30/05/2018 01:16

Sapphire I’m cool toned, blonde, blue eyes and fairly pale (when I’ve not fake tanned! Grin Would be brave for the right red. Might just bite the bullet and go into a fairly large dept store soon. Thanks for the heads up about Clinique Chardonnay.

Know what you mean about BB lip products - currently have my eye on a lip art stick and a gloss but am Hmm about the price tag when I’ve found a L’Oreal one I like recently. The other shades you looked at buying would be research, no?

SapphireSeptember · 30/05/2018 02:26

Try Revlon Really Red*, it's matte but not drying, and it's not that expensive. I too am pale and cool toned, but I have dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Ergo I prefer brighter/darker shades of lipstick as pastel/nude shades don't show up.
*Often mentioned as a dupe for MAC Ruby Woo, which apparently is what Taylor Swift wears.

Ooh, I like your way of thinking there, and if I wait for a 3 for 2 offer even better!

I like L'Oréal too, they and Maybelline have both released lovely unusual colours recently. MAC did a fantastic collection last year that absolutely killed it and I ended up with over half of them (16 shades out of 28, I should be embarrassed, but I'm not.) Kiko are pretty cool too, and NYX are amazing. Even Revlon now do a black. So many lipsticks, so little time! I'm often complimented on my lipstick choices and someone even said they suit me really well, so at least that's something!

Thank you Sapphire, will keep a beady eye out for that when I’m next in Boots/Superdrug and report back!

16/28 isn’t bad at all - I wouldn’t have stopped there Blush

sexnotgender · 31/05/2018 15:45

The urban decay comfort matte ones are great, my favourites are criminal and checkmate.

Cheesymonster · 31/05/2018 15:58

My problem is I have no idea what will suit me. I am pale, I think I’m warm toned but I have some pink to my skin, and dark blonde with green eyes and have so far stuck to nudes but I think I should branch out to something different.

StoatofDisarray · 31/05/2018 16:07

Diorific Mitzvah is my current favourite.

I have pale skin (Estee Lauder 10C Shell) and it's perfect. It's a MLBB type of colour, matt-ish, easy to wear: a lovely brown/mauve that I thought would be too dark and too brown for me until I put it on. It looks fantastic - a bit retro, but very flattering on my 50+ face. I thought I would never be able to pull off such a deeply pigmented shade at my age, given how pale I am, but this lipstick has changed my mind. Will definitely repurchase.

Other favourites are the Sisley Phyto Lip Shines in Burgundy and Raspberry, and the original Dior Lip Glow "no shade" shade.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 31/05/2018 16:11

I usually buy Charlotte tilbury, mac, Bobbi brown etc but was in topshop with dd and browsed the make up whilst she was trying on and got a fab lipstick. Only £5 but fab staying power and a good range of colours.

SapphireSeptember · 31/05/2018 17:03

LesAnya Glad to be of service! They still have some of the MAC lipsticks on the Debenhams website, and there's two more I want to get, now I know they still have them. The Temptalia lady did a review of the collection.

www.temptalia.com/the-best-worst-mac-colour-rocker-lipsticks/

Guess which ones I've got?

(1,3,4,5,10,11,12,13,16,17,18,22,24,25,26,28 and I want 23 and 27. Also getting a back up of Mean Green Machine as I LOVE that colour.)

Ooh, Checkmate is pretty!

Cheesymonster This might help, it certainly helped me. Smile But then I found out I kinda knew anyway, judging by my wardrobe!

Thank you Thanks

SapphireSeptember · 04/06/2018 21:28

I wore Black Stallion today, it is the perfect black lipstick. ❤ I'm going to have to get a back up, especially as it's been discontinued!

Just wanted to crow about Bond Girl by Charlotte Tilbury. It's amazing!

prampushingdownthehighst · 04/02/2019 16:47

I was lucky in T K Maxx the other day and got a set of 4 bare minerals matt lipglosses.
Very impressed and they stay on for ages compared to my usual.

Shortyshortcake1 · 04/02/2019 16:59

I’m quite pale and just found my perfect shade of nude/pink with Lipstick Queen ‘The Truth’ and ‘Sweet as Honey’ (slightly paler). I’d never heard of the brand before but found it in Space NK and now hooked. For bright red, it’s got to be Dior.

Mercurial123 · 04/02/2019 17:53

Kat Von D liquid lipstick is fan, lasts all day and is cruelty free.

SapphireSeptember · 04/02/2019 23:27

Well, someone revived my thread, (not that I'm complaining. Grin )
I've been buying up Revlon lippies recently and want these NYX lipglosses but there are only half the shades left on the website (so that's me scouring eBay come payday.)

Some swatches, they're so pretty!

'Just wanted to crow about Bond Girl by Charlotte Tilbury. It's amazing!'

I have this and I love the colour, but I find the formula is nothing special.

Sapphire mentioned Revlon, and i have to say their lipsticks are excellent, the bullet style ones, not the sticks or pens. Great staying power, good range of colours and very good price. I'm Shock at the price of Estee Lauder and Dior lipsticks!

SapphireSeptember · 05/02/2019 22:03

Revlon are fantastic, they've been in the lipstick game for years, they know what they're doing. Smile They launched their first lipstick in 1940, I believe. (Huge fan girl here.)

Revlon Fire and Ice and Cherries in the Snow. Oldies but goodies.
