Security tag left in new skirt - aaaargh!

I bought a new skirt in Sainsbury's this morning. I paid at the self service till and like a fool I forgot to click 'yes' for 'yes I do want to print my receipt'. I get back to the office and get my new skirt out to admire it to find that there is a security tag on it. In my defence, it was 8am and I wasn't fully functional yet but yes, I am a fool

Any way round this without having to go back to the store and beg? I know security tags are designed to be hard / impossible to remove at home but any suggestions?

This recently happened to me with a hat for my son I bought from Next. I didn't want to have to schlep back to Next, so I went to a nearby shop that has security tags and asked if they could take it off. Luckily it was the same sort of tag. As I entered the store the security barriers beeped so she knew what I was going to ask. Apparently it happens all the time. Maybe ask at a local store and they might help you out?

Ps - I had the receipt but she didn't want to see it - she said I looked honest Grin

If you paid with a card, your bank account will show the payment.

EvaGraceMummy2015 · 24/05/2018 09:29

This is going to sound rather suspicious (I honestly did pay for the jeans!🙈😂) but I did exactly the same once when I bought some from Tesco, forgot to ask the person on the self scan to remove the tag so once I got home and realised I was gutted as I was planning to wear them that night! So I googled how to get a security tag off and it showed me exactly how to do it on YouTube.. so I tried it and was dead easy 😊 it involves a lighter and a knife to pull the spring out of the inside x

I found a security tab in a coat I bought in France after I got home. I googled how to remove it and it was pretty simple. I knew I'd paid for it and I still felt vaguely guilty though Grin

Thanks all. Will have a look at DIY options on YouTube when I get home!

You can use a strong magnet to remove security tags.

MrsPatmore · 24/05/2018 10:11

I'd just return with the receipt.

MagentaRocks · 24/05/2018 10:13

Mrspatmore the op says she didn’t get a receipt.

tarheelbaby · 24/05/2018 10:13

do you have access to a strong magnet? we had this problem - left the store too hastily after paying.

BusterGonad · 24/05/2018 10:15

MrsPatmore what great idea! 😂Some shops will scan it and if you tell them the time and date they might have proof of that transaction on their till. Or I've had shops check with my card details, i.e. They take my card and scan it and the transaction comes up on the till.

butlerswharf · 24/05/2018 10:31

It'll be fine as the self service tills all have CCTV on them. If they doubt you they can just check it and see you paid.

It happened to me with a gift I received for my daughter. It was a very expensive coat and I didn't have a receipt. They just took the tag off with no problems.

SmileApologies, should read the full thread!

Good old YouTube

Lottapianos · 24/05/2018 18:30

H&M wouldn't remove it for me without a receipt. Fair enough I guess. DP has offered to have a go at some DIY removal so that suits me Grin thanks all

If you paid by card (or used your nectar card) Sainsbury's will be able to trace the transaction. As long as you can give them the rough time/date/which till they should be able to trace the item by it's bar code.

I bought some eyeliner which when I opened it a few days later was totally dried out. Didn't have the receipt, just remembered roughly when I bought it. The customer services lady was able to find it using the product code/my card number and issued me a refund. Took a few minutes to do - but is possible.

My ds did this last week with a rucksack he got from Jack Wills - he managed to get it off himself with no problem. When I get home I can ask him and come back to you if you haven't done it already by then?
