M&S downsizing in the news today

62% fall in pretax profits and branch closures announced.

The chief exec has been on the Beeb today. He's putting on a brave face, but is saying that the only clothes they sell profitably are underwear, jeans and children's clothes. Then he starts banging on about 'improving shopper experience'

He did mention that a new collection uses more natural fibres (good), but was utterly silent on weird design, inconsistent sizing, poor stock levels (when I'm in a shop I want to buy something, not make an online order)

I don't think their management pays any attention to Mumsnet - it's not as if there's been any shortage of threads about M&S, and they all say much the same thing.

People shop at Uniqlo (for quality basics) and Primark (for this season) now because M&S haven't covered either of those for so many years now that I just can't see how they get people back to looking at their clothes.
