Help - do fashionable supportive sandals exist!? (Orthotic)

Counter27 · 22/05/2018 21:06

I will be getting orthotic insoles soon and while that's fine for my closed shoes I will mostly wear sandals over the warmer weather and insoles don't work.

A quick google and orthotic sandals I have seen are very old lady-ish/clumpy. I'm early 30s and want to find some nice quality leather sandals that look good and support flat arches.

Any ideas or is this a step too far? 😁

I've yet to find any. Luckily, I have discovered that with my wonky feet (i have flat feet and a tendon issue) I can do without orthotics as long as I am wearing Fitflop brand shoes and sandals.

I have NHS supplies insoles and in the summer I wear birkenstocks, not the ones with just front band but ones with more secure so your foot stays in them more.

TakeMe2Insanity · 22/05/2018 21:33

Another one with NHS insoles and a birkenstock wearer in summer. I found one pair of sandals (that look like sandals rather than a slip on) by scholl in tkmaxx last year that were very comfy. I am a few years post my injury (which caused the need for orthotics) and have been able to work out an ideal heel hight which really helped comfort levels as totally flat don’t work for me.

Check out Wolkys. Dutch brand with removable insoles you can replace with your own. Lots of style and colours and excellent quality.

Placemarking to see what people suggest. I haven't found any so far.

I've been a Birkenstock fan for decades but they cause me problems now. Fit Flops are pretty good. And Wolkys though they are more £££

ilovecherries · 22/05/2018 23:45

I suspect you are looking for a unicorn - although if you find it, do let me know! I do have a pair of Wolkys, but I actually cried when I left the shop with them, they were so depressing. This year for the first time I've been able to wear fit flop sandals - they aren't great, but they are so much better than anything I've managed before that I bought them in tan and in silver. Mine are the lulu with a backstrap (they also do lulu slides but I couldn't manage those).

SwearyMaclairy · 22/05/2018 23:56

Try Earth Spirit. A lot are frumpy but over the years i’ve managed to find a decent pair each year. I’m 37.

Itscurtainsforyou · 22/05/2018 23:56

Heavenly feet sandals have been ok for me

PestymcPestFace · 23/05/2018 00:37

Shuropody a shop full of comfy sandels, or varying degrees of unfashionability.

Youcantflosstomonkeywrench · 23/05/2018 06:28

I usually try Ecco, Gabor and Josef Seibel. The holy grail is a pair that are supportive and fashionable looking, now and again I am successful. Luckily Ecco have moved on from just doing the sort of thing that your great gran would wear because they are amazing quality and can be worn all day no problem.

BunnyDog · 23/05/2018 07:40

Has anyone tried Vionic? Saw an advert the other day, and they have some reasonable styles on their site so may be tempted.

auberginesrus · 23/05/2018 08:07

Ive had Vionic shoes, reasonably comfortable but found the arch support a bit firm for me.

teta · 23/05/2018 10:16

I like Vionic. I have a pair of their espadrilles and 3 pairs of boots. The only thing I find is that it takes a day or so to get used to the arch supports. But then if you swop to some other shoes you have to start again. They are the only shoes I can wear comfortably for walking around d apart from Fitflops.

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 23/05/2018 10:22

Snug fitting Birkenstocks in summer, trainers or boots with orthotics the rest of the time. It's shoes I have problems with, cannot find any anywhere that fit me with orthotics.

NightLion · 23/05/2018 10:23

New Zealand brand, Ziera shoes, make beautiful, fashionable, orthotic sandals.

Counter27 · 23/05/2018 12:32

Thanks all, good suggestions. The hunt continues 😊
