Will this wedding dress look ridiculous on me

I'm getting married in September. I haven't tried it on. I'm worried this dress is just too "big" too bold and will "wear" me. I'm 5ft 4, size 8 with skinny shoulders. I'm also sort of frail looking, or so I'm told. But I love the dress.

Do you think it would look ok? Should I cover my shoulders somehow? What with?

I'm not wearing a veil, I've ordered "kitty ears" which in my dark hair are barely visible unless you are close up. It's a thing that DP will be amused with, is this a bad idea?

If you love it and it makes you feel good, wear it! Try it on and if you want to wear it then you should wear it. Which part are you worried about wearing you? If it’s the shape you could maybe get alterations, and if it’s the colour then clever make up or a subtle tan?

It’s a beautiful dress and I hope you have a lovely day whatever you decide Smile

Lovely dress.

Will it need to be taken up? That could alter the look of it.

Also it looks to have quite a lot of underskirt - if you want to 'slim' the skirt you could probably do it by not wearing the underskirt, or wearing a less fluffy one.

Thank you, im not pale but I will have to have a bit more colour I think. I've been trying different make up looks. I usually wear very subtle make up, but I think I might need to something more dramatic, which makes me nervous. I have fine lines around my eyes so I can't wear a heavy base, it needs to be very light.....I'm a bit lost on this. Do any of the make up counters do a bridal make over? Anyone know?

I think I will probably wear my hair down so it covers my shoulders. But I'm wondering if I should have a bolero or something.

I'm hoping there is quite a big petticoat under it in the picture.

It's being made in my size including height so hopefully won't need alterations.....but I guess I'm being a bit optimistic.

Wow it's stunning! I love it! My friend is petite like you at 5'3" and a size 8 - she wore a 'big' beautiful dress and looked stunning. You can definitely pull it off! Personally I wouldn't add a bolero - I think the dress is enough and quite a statement. I think adding more could end up looking fussy. Definitely ask at beauty counters for make up advice - I did the same before my wedding and they were all very helpful. Make sure to wear any make up they apply for a bit before buying - you want stuff that stays put, not smudges or runs off too quickly.

Looks absolutely gorgeous. I definitely don't think it will wear you.

If it's a church wedding, I would cover the shoulders - although that's just my personal preference, not some kind of rule. Possibly with a stole of the same fabric? Shame to cover up any part of that dress, though!

What a beautiful dress and I love the colour. I think a bolero would spoil the lines.

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 21/05/2018 13:33

when you try it on, does it make you smile?

ElfrideSwancourt · 21/05/2018 13:35

It's a fabulous dress go for it!

MiniTheMinx · 21/05/2018 23:33

Thank you everyone, I feel a bit more confident it will be ok. I think you're all right about the bolero. I might find a velvet one and keep it just in case it's cold outside.

I will have time next week to go to Estée Lauder, I've tried their doublewear but it's quite heavy. I think the Bourjois serum suits my skin better and gives a dewy look but it doesn't wear well, towards the end of the day it's gone! Andm going to have a long day. Any suggestions would be great.

Dress should arrive in two weeks.

Armani Luminous Silk is my choice of foundation. It does however have spf afaik, which you don't want for your wedding due to photos. Play around with the brands a bit - ask for samples from Nars, Chanel etc if you want something a bit dewy. Fenty would also be a good foundation option.

I really like the dress, it's very striking.
