Help me introduce a daily facial spf into my skincare routine- lost!

I keep hearing how important it is to wear a daily spf but have no idea if I'm just meant to slap a bit of my usual holiday stuff on my face, buy one in a mosturiser, how does make up go on after etc?

Please help me protect my face in the sun while also being able to put make up on over. Any products recommendations appreciated also!

What sort of skin do you have OP? Dry, oily, combination?

You do need a special SPF product at this time of year. I use Biore Watery Essence 50. You can buy it off Amazon for about a tenner a bottle, will last you months. It's great - no white cast, not sticky, no stingy eyes. I need to use a light moisturizer with it because I have dry skin, but if you're oilier you might be fine without

I have dry skin usually so wear a thick moisturiser at present

I find the best thing is to buy a light lotion moisturiser and a watery spf. Nothing feels claggy then. You always have them sitting beside each other, so it's bish bash.

My current one is the La Roche Posay ultra light. Theres a tinted version too if you're into that.

DialMforMordor · 21/05/2018 11:12

I bought an Olay Regenerist SPF30 as an emergency moisturiser when I forgot my overnight bag, and it's actually been really good.

I hate wearing too many layers on my face at this time of year, so generally use Ultrasun SPF 50 over The Ordinary Buffet, and as little foundation as I can get away with.

Would these spfs suffice if you're going to be in the sun? Not sunbathing (I don't), but eg gardening.
Or would you then add a sunscreen with more oomph?

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2018 11:38

TheSpotted - I use the Frezyderm velvet matte spf 50. Rode my horse between 11.45am - 2pm so a good chunk of time, didn't reapply and then was in and out of the sun in town until 4pm
Red hair and the shade of paper and no burning at all

I use biore watery essence. It feels nice on my skin and I've heard it described as "cosmetically elegant" whatever that means.

I wear it every day and any time I'm not at work I'm out in the garden with my ds. My sister commented yesterday about how white I still am so it must be doing the job.

bookbook · 21/05/2018 11:43

I use this , when I am out all day out or gardening etc.

Thanks Olli - I've seen your pic (when you posted it UK mean - I'm not stalking you...) and we have similar complexions.

I've been using Watery Essence and it's not really cutting it any more. I've also tried many many others and they're either too claggy, tinted - or have white cast, are greasy or plain don't work. But I have not yet succumbed to the Frezyderm frenzy...

ifancyagreencard · 21/05/2018 11:58

I switched to this a few years ago - love it! www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/face/moisturisers-with-spf/vitamin-c-glow-protect-lotion-spf30/p/p000323

bookbook · 21/05/2018 12:02

I am interested - in this I have only ever used spf 30 on my face ( fair skin/red hair/moles/freckles)

Ollivander84 · 21/05/2018 12:31

The Frezyderm frenzy is definitely worth it! I used that on my face and the banana boat aerosol on my body and no burning at all which is incredible for me
