Help please :) What colour shoes for DS dark blue prom suit?

Eldest DS going to his leaving dance soon, the only suit he's ever worn is grey and is a day suit which he has worn to a wedding and funeral and will also be fine for interviews.

He's very quiet but has picked a bit of a break from the "please no one look at me" clothes he favours and has picked a deep blue checked 3 piece suit with a white shirt and burgundy (a bit paler with a bit of a silvery tone to it) tie/pocket square.

The picture of the suit doesn't show shoes but does show a tan belt so thinking it would be tan shoes but I'm not really sure...would they be suitable for an evening thing?

Help please :) What colour shoes for DS dark blue prom suit?

Defiantly tan, weddings I've been to recently the majority of the male bridal party member have worn tan brogues/loafers. It's a nice suit - sure he'll look very dapper Wink

Racecardriver · 20/05/2018 21:03

Definitely not anything other than black. The only colour skies that are appropriate for men in the evening are black. Same goes for work and interviews.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/05/2018 21:07

Whatever colour he wants - there are no rules for prom! Cherry red docs, maybe?

Newdad19 · 20/05/2018 21:09

As a male, definitely tan. Do not let him wear black shoes with that suit

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 20/05/2018 21:11

Black would be correct.

However at his age and at a prom, he can wear silver converse or whatever pleases him. Hope he has a good night!

Smarshian · 20/05/2018 21:11

Tan 100%

Carriemac · 20/05/2018 21:13

They all wear tan shoes with blue suits
I’d youre not sure look at last years prom pics on social
Media

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 20/05/2018 21:14

Definitely tan, black would look awful with that suit!

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/05/2018 21:14

Thank you everyone :) I actually think it would be good with a pair of converse but he has a high instep so ca't wear those and he's 6'3 so doesn't want anything that makes him look taller so anything like Docs would be out too.

I can't emphasis how quiet he is and how much of a departure this is for him. He was chuffed that a couple (my sort of age) were telling him how brilliant he looked in it although even at long length it's still having to be altered in the sleeves and seat area!

General consensus is tan then - will he need a matching belt?

Tradition says black, but I'd think tan would look better on a young man

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/05/2018 21:16

Can't find pictures of last years prom. There were some of the Christmas dance (which he didn't go to) but couldn't see feet plus a lot were in kilts and DJs. From what I can gather though the leaving dance is generally suits.

Tan shoes, leather and pointy!

sparklepops123 · 20/05/2018 21:18

My 26 yr old was best man at wedding - wouldn’t even contemplate black shoes- my thinking- went for tan

Celticlassie · 20/05/2018 21:20

Definitely tan. Black would be awful.

FortyFacedFuckers · 20/05/2018 21:21

Definitely tan! The suit is lovely i’m Sure he will be very handsome

2gorgeousboys · 20/05/2018 21:21

My son wore a similar colour suit for his sixth form prom last week. He wore a white shirt, pink tie and tan shoes and belt and looked very handsome (although I admit I am slightly biased!).

WaxOnFeckOff · 20/05/2018 21:22

The trousers are very slim and he has size 11 feet, I'm thinking some kind of design might make them look a bit shorter in the foot.

Something like these?

Might be worth getting leather, rather than plastic, if funds will run to it. A decent pair of tan shoes will always be useful for interviews/weddings etc!

TeeBee · 21/05/2018 18:06

You should never where black shoes with blue clothes. Definitely tan/brown.

dontticklethetoad · 21/05/2018 18:07

Definitely tan. Even my old fogey, mid 40s husband has gone over to tan Grin

BigFatBloomers · 21/05/2018 18:17

Just to offer another suggestion, DH has a pair of (navy) blue suede shoes, like these which look great with his blue suit and might not stand out as much as tan ones.

TroubledLichen · 21/05/2018 18:29

‘No brown (shoes) in town’ Grin

But seriously it’s a school prom, not an interview to work in wealth management so he should wear whatever he likes. In some more antiquated professional circles tan shoes/navy suit would be considered a massive faux pas though.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/05/2018 18:29

I generally go for leather, I'm only hesitating slightly as I think that neither the suit nor shoes might see the light of day again. He starts uni in September so I am fairly sure he will spend the next 4 years or so in trainers and jeans. He has a grey suit that he'll probably use for interviews etc

I do like the look of those suede ones too though. I'll come up with a few options and see what he thinks. :)

Thank you all so much it's been an enormous help. I'm just hoping the alterations they are making mean that he can comfortably move in the trousers!

Definitely tan! My DS has his prom last year, there were loads of boys there in blue suits and tan shoes, it's a real good combination. Black looks a bit boring and officey.
