Like Jo Malone but with staying power

So I love my JM blossom scents but for £45 a pop they don't last more than an hour. I don't want to go back to popular branded commercial stuff; I like the 'vibe' of JM. What else is out there that might be natural scented, long lasting and not pungent?

Have you tried somewhere like penhaligons with lots of scents that can be bespoke combined like jo malone..?

SouthWestmom · 18/05/2018 21:09

No, sounds good. I shall google !

Diptique? Lovely scents that last.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 18/05/2018 21:31

L’Artisan Parfumier are lovely (especially mure et musc). Cost a bit more than JM but last ages. Liz Earl Botanical essence range is also worth a look.

SouthWestmom · 18/05/2018 21:33

Oh lots of ideas. Just ordered two free samples from Pengaligons (£5.50 delivery) so that is exciting!

Jo Loves - the real Jo Malone has lasting power .

GrimDamnFanjo · 19/05/2018 00:56

For unusual but with absolute staying power I reccomend 4160Tuesdays.

bingohandjob · 19/05/2018 05:15

Jo Loves - lasts much, much longer.

MrsDilber · 19/05/2018 05:32

Avoided the Jo Malone tidal wave, the exception being gifts that have been asked for. Really shocked to hear her stuff doesn't have staying power, why are people buying it for, the name?

A £40 candle that doesn't last is like The emperors new clothes imo.

ThenCameTheFools · 19/05/2018 07:06

Jo Malone stuff is cologne- ie perfumed water. The fragrances are also generally very very linear, one or two notes only, and can therefore be reproduced by virtually anyone.

Superdrug do Basil Lime Mandarin and it is virtually exactly like the No Malones (as we call them on the perfume thread) and costs about a fiver. Yes, you have to respray, but at a fiver, so what! Primark also do some, but I haven't tried them.

The JMs are really so simple in their composition that there will be many many other houses knocking out the same thing, but a lot lot cheaper.

The Perfume Parlour do dupes of many Jo Malones. I have the Wood Sage/seasalt dupe, the LMB and various others and they have much longer sillage and are indistinguishable if not slightly better than the very average "real" thing. You don't get a fancy schmancy box, but you don't pay £60 for that box either.

ThenCameTheFools · 19/05/2018 07:14

Re the Jo Loves- have never tried, but notice that they are branded as "A Fragrance" or "A Fragrance" with "Parfum" written underneath.

Anyone know what that actually means? I'll ask on the perfumista thread, but I'd imagine as the fragrances seem to be very similar but with different branding, I'd be wary of spending almost a hundred quid if they're colognes like the original JMs.

MeetieVonWrinkleSqueak · 19/05/2018 08:11

Personally, I haven’t found that Jo Loves lasts any longer on me than Jo Malone.

Shame, as I love some of the fragrances.

SouthWestmom · 19/05/2018 08:24

Ah didn't realise that about them not being perfume.

I bought JM as I wanted to move away from the usual suspects in Boots.

Went to a shop tried them all and bought one.

Realised it doesn't work for long.

So I've got two samples coming from Pengaligons and I'm looking at Santa Maria Novella.

I love all the Miller Harris scents. They seem to last on me.

Branleuse · 19/05/2018 08:42

oh good thread. Does anyone know a longer lasting dupe/version of Jo Malone french lime blossom. Im obsessed with it, but it barely lasts a couple of hours

Sparkletastic · 19/05/2018 08:45

Another vote for 4160 Tuesdays. Vastly superior to JM IMO.

loveka · 19/05/2018 09:15

Actually, I think some of the fragrances do last! I have the basil one which lasts all day. Gardenia, which was discontinued, lasted too.

I love the bluebell but it doesn't last 5 minutes!

didireallysaythat · 19/05/2018 09:21

I've been searching for the superdrug lime basil copy for months - the stores don't seem to carry it and I can't see it on line (apart from in a calendar) - where do you get this mythical beast from ??

PestymcPestFace · 19/05/2018 09:31

For anyone into 4160, Sarah McCartney is on MN for a webchat next week on Thursday

ThenCameTheFools · 19/05/2018 09:37

Branleuse- yes, the Superdrug one. Or the PP dupe. Both much better and longer lasting than the original. The Superdrug one goes under the branding of Bloom.

The 4160s aren't really comparable to JMs as they are totally different beasts, if the OP is looking for similar smelling perfumes to JMs then maybe Atelier Cologne- but again, many are colognes (some are Edps or extraits- you can get a sample pack for not very much from their website) Almost every perfume ever made is superior to JMs IMO, but I'm very biased (against) the JM hype. Grin Loads of places are doing linear, simple almost soliflores these days seemingly.

Crisp fresh limey/citrus perfumes I'd recommend would be
Eau du Sud- Annick Goutal
Jade- Yardley
Cristalle- Chanel
Liz Earle Botanical N1

All the other emperor's new clothes that is Tom Ford too- (all available on PP!) (those of us from the perfumista thread don't work for PP, honestly!) Grin

SouthWestmom · 19/05/2018 10:15

What's PP?

Has anyone tried these?

misiabella · 19/05/2018 12:43

PP is PerfumParlour .

Molton Brown might be a good place to look, and maybe L'occitane.

Onynx · 20/05/2018 08:59

I wear English Pear & Fresia and also Pomegranate and find both of those quite long lasting.

ThenCameTheFools · 20/05/2018 09:03

For quite cheap samples, try a discovery pack. Atelier Cologne, similar in longevity but more interesting concoctions (and also lots of citrussy TF/JM colognes) do one for iirc about 30 euro and you receive loads, about 20.

SouthWestmom · 20/05/2018 09:06

Thanks for the suggestions. I want to move away from Boots and mainstream (I know JM is mainstream) to something a bit more natural or interesting. If Body Shop was any good anymore I'd be looking there!

Has anyone done Santa Maria Novella perfumes?
