This is the dress I’m wearing www.asos.com/outrageous-fortune/outrageous-fortune-high-neck-maxi-dress-with-thigh-split/prd/9136308?affid=14173&channelref=product+search&mk=abc&currencyid=1&ppcadref=761030383%7C43814987229%7Cpla-418370403488&_cclid=v3_69fee8d0-3ad1-5259-8e50-cbf0f2796729&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpJP9mNON2wIVCvEbCh0Gzw9uEAQYBSABEgKPfPD_BwE

The shoes are similar to the attached photo, so are black with gold snakeskin, but are open toed and don’t have lightning bolts on them and are slightly less OTT, but same general shape and style. The outfit looks quite glamorous and I would normally wear light nails or natural makeup with nude lipstick for a wedding, but I think that would look ridiculous. Perhaps darker lipstick? What colour for nails?

Is the dress navy? With black shoes? Not sure about that.

I suppose it depends on the wedding but are you planning to wear a jacket / wrap type thing? I think the backless / strappy back is a bit too much / evening-ey unless it's a black tie type event.

But to answer your question, minimal make up and sleek hair (chignon etc?) so it's all understated.

whoopsiedaisies · 17/05/2018 23:18

I love the dress and I think nude nails would look lovely with it

Splandy · 17/05/2018 23:28

Yes, it would be navy and black/gold. It looked ok when I’ve tried it on but I’m not so sure now on how to pull it all together. I’ve tried it with a nude pair and it didn’t look great, though possibly more to do with the style of shoe. It’s not a black tie event, it will probably be a bit raucous. The material looks a bit cheap and shiny and it fits me differently to the model. So you think nude lips would be a good idea? I don’t know whether it will look silly with quite in your face shoes. What about nails or a bag? Should I include gold elsewhere?

But do you think nude toes would work with black and gold snakeskin shoes? Isn’t it a bit too wishy washy?

That is a lovely dress OP.

How about a deeper gold beige nail varnish on your fingers and a good glitter varnish on your toe nails?

If you want to have more of a colour how about a peachy rose with hint of gold.

Nude nails are nice, but IMO they are a smart, work wear colour. The wedding is obviously quite dressy, so I would have more dressy nails.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 18/05/2018 05:38

Dress is great.

nude nails are nice/or night red/with show stoping the lipstick, no to a jacket, it would ruin the line, a wrap would be better.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 18/05/2018 05:39

gold bag would be great. statement shoes are great. don't feel shy. the dress allows for strong shoes.

Splandy · 18/05/2018 11:04

The idea of deeper gold beige varnish sounds good, or peachy rose with a hint of gold. Is there any chance you know of anything that fits the bill? I'm not very good at seeing the differences between colours or picking them out. I've never worn a dark lipstick, what sort of shade would be good?

OP here is a link to BB which is unfortunately out of stock but will give you an idea of what sort of shade I was thinking of.

What do you think of the opi colour 'not tonight honey'? Is it too pale?

I’m going to go against the grain here and say I’d probably go with something like plum/purple lips + nails and gold shoes

Nixee2231 · 18/05/2018 21:09

But I know thats not everyone’s tase Grin

DuckEgg86 · 18/05/2018 21:13

Is it a summer wedding? It’s not a very summery dress?!

ShirleyPhallus · 18/05/2018 21:17

Can you see your nipples through the dress?! Doesn’t seem very wedding appropriate!

Splandy · 18/05/2018 21:33

Of course, I thought I might hang some tassels from them to jazz up the outfit a little.

Keep it classy 👌🏼

DuckEgg86 · 18/05/2018 21:45

Navy and black don’t go.
You said the material isn’t right.
Personally I would re-evaluate the whole outfit. Especially for a summer wedding.
I saw some lovely jumpsuits in Coast the other day!

dontticklethetoad · 18/05/2018 21:48

It's a no from me for blue dress/black shoes combo. It think it looks a bit cheap (sorry).

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 18/05/2018 21:55

Dress is pretty, shoes are awful. I would get some strappy sandals, then you could wear your nude make up
Are you just invited to the evening do. If it's for the ceremony & day I would get something to wear over the dress

Splandy · 18/05/2018 22:12

My description of the fabric was to explain that it's not something I'd wear to a black tie event. It's fine for this wedding. Those aren't my shoes, but same brand and materials. They do still have a seventies look to them. I'm perfectly happy with the dress and shoes.

More advice on lip colour would be great.
