My lipstick makes my teeth look yellow

  • what am I doing wrong??

Do I need different colour lipstick? (Or different colour teeth? Confused ) Or am I just not one of those people who can carry off lipstick at all? That would make me sad, but not as sad as dingy looking teeth.

Try cool toned shades instead. Go to a makeup counter and explain this and the artist will be able to direct you towards cool undertones rather than warm undertones which make your teeth appear yellow.

Have you tried a charcoal toothpaste? Ive been using some and whilst it's not made my teeth dramatically whiter, it does seemed to have neutralised the slight yellowness which I had started to notice

troodiedoo · 17/05/2018 18:25

I have this problem. I can only wear pale pink lipstick. Think it's something to do with blue undertones?

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 17/05/2018 18:25

A bit of both.

You need a blue toned lipstick rather than a orange toned lipstick to balance it out.

So cool pinks and reds rather than warm pinks and reds.

Charcoal toothpaste - right, will put it on the shopping list!

How do I know which is a cool toned lipstick? They all look warm to me

Can you tell a blue pink apart from a red pink?

Think of the colour wheel. If it's a pink with more blue tones then it is cool. The opposite if it is red.

Think of reds that are closer to purple - so red mixed with blue.

Warmer reds are closer to red mixed with orange.

Mac Ruby woo is a cool toned red. As is Relentlessly Red (which is a pink red). Mac Girl About Town is a cool toned pink.

BusterGonad · 17/05/2018 19:13

I think Revlon Fire and Ice is cool toned, and cherries in the snow.

Catabogus · 17/05/2018 19:18

Ooh thank you for all these recommendations! I usually wear a mauve type lipstick (at least they often have “mauve” in name - they don’t actually look mauve to me!). I don’t think I could get away with anything as bright as Ruby Woo etc!

If your’e looking at Revlon check out Cherry Blossom too. It’s my fave cool red. I use it v sparingly.

FannyBurney · 17/05/2018 19:22

Just read your last post. You might find Cherry blossom too bright in that case. You sound like you have cool muted colouring rather than cool and bright, so something that would look like a soft pink on me might appear red on you.

Catabogus · 17/05/2018 19:57

I am a bit mystified by all these colour terms - I don’t think I’d be able to tell “cool and bright” from “cool muted”. Nor can I really see anything cool about any shade of red/pink!

I did work out that I must have Winter colouring though, and I look best in jewel colours (in clothes - no idea about in make up).

Catabogus- have a look at the colour wheel with your DCs.

Anything towards the blue side is cool and anything towards the red side is warm. It's actually really straight forward.

BusterGonad · 17/05/2018 22:36

I have Mac hot gossip. A cool toned pinky mauve plummy colour!

Have a look on temptalia, you can click on the swatches option and select cool undertones for any type of make up.

It'll show you what the lipsticks look like and give a review etc.
