Braces

Hi

I would be grateful for any advice.

I have a slightly sticking out canines at the top. My smile doesn't quite fill my mouth and my teeth at the bottom are overcrowded. I've been to see an orthodontist who gave me 3 options but the two I'm interested in are damon braces (like train tracks) or true smile which are clear aligners. She said that damon braces would give the best results because they were good for getting a wide smile but also said I was a good candidate for the clear braces. I initially said I wanted to go for the damon braces but I work in a professional environment seeing clients regularly. I'm worried I'd feel very self conscious. Has anyone had good results getting a wider smile with clear retainers?

Thanks very much

Only go for the clear retainers if you know you will be really strict about wearing them ALL THE TIME. I had Invisalign and was too lax about when I’d wear them. Obviously, they then didn’t work properly and I ended up with 4 months of train tracks anyway.

Is true smile the same as invisalign?

Im having invisalign fitted next week. I think my teeth issues sound similar to yours and the orthodontist has said invisalign will fix me...but obviously i cant tell you if its worked yet!
Loads of the staff at the orthodontist had invisalign and i didnt notice it at all! If you look on instagram and youtube there are lots of before/afters so you can see the results

I had train tracks in my 30’s but my issues were much more severe and was only option for me. I wasn’t self conscious at all and even “jazz’s” them up with coloured ligs (the little elastics that keep wire on each tooth bracket. I had to wear clear tray retainers for a while at the end when they came off and just those few weeks of wearing them 23/7 was an absolute pain in the butt. You can’t eat with them in or have a hot drink and I drooled so much. If I had to choose again I would go for traditional braces everyone.

I had traditional braces in my mid 20s and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I had tooth-coloured brackets and white wires and it made me feel less self conscious about them. I ended up with silver wires however as the white wires weren't the best quality and "paint" would flake off them so they would end up silver anyway.

If you go for retainers make sure you are strict with wearing them, I know people who have got lazy with them and ended up having more dental work to correct this.

I currently wear braces now on my top teeth at 25yo. I was offered Invisalign or metal train tracks and I chose train tracks as they were cheaper and tbh I knew I would probably struggle having to wear a mould for 23 hour a day.
Anyway, you honestly can’t really tell I even wear braces as the only thing you can see is the thin wire as the actual components are clear plastic rather than metal as well so overall they’ve been for being discreet. Might be worth asking about having clear components rather than metal ones?
