Getting hair coloured-what do I ask for? And any recommendations in Edinburgh?

I’ve never dyed my hair before, but it’s been getting greyer and greyer and I think it’s time to start! My natural colour is red/auburn/dark ginger and I’d like to dye it to its natural pre-greys colour, or possibly a slightly more glamorous version.

But what do I ask for? What are highlights? Lowlights? Balayage? Am totally clueless.

Also, can anyone recommend a good salon and/or stylist in Edinburgh, especially for colour? Thanks!

I also ask the hairdresser what they would suggest...tell they how much effort, maintenance i am prepared to do, how often i am prepared to come back for more etc an£ get them to work out the options. Enjoy!
