If you spend a lot/ are high maintenance....

How much do you spend?
I’m using an excel spread sheet to track spending during the year. I have separated out clothes in one column and beauty in another. I would classify myself as high maintenance. Regular nails, hair cut and colour and clothes. I am interested to know what others spend (if you don’t mind disclosing) monthly or annually, if you consider yourself a high spender in that area. Just interested in trying to gauge where I am on the spending scale!

Ooh far too much.. between beauty procedures, clothes and cosmetics and hair etc, likely... nah I can't say it, too embarrassing, but more than some people will earn.. not sure how I feel about that when I really think about it...

Locasta · 12/05/2018 20:02

Nails every fortnight £26.
Hair every 6 weeks £140 for a colour and cut
Hair up or curled for nights out £30 a month
Clothes - that depends on the season and what I need. The average spend would be around £500.
Beauty products are normally £300 approx every few months.
Microblading of my eyebrows top up annually £200
Top ups of lips and top liner annually £300
I have weekly massages but don't think that counts.

negunslean · 12/05/2018 20:03

@happygirlnow do tell! This thread isn’t to make people feel bad. If you earn it fair and square then its yours to spend how you see fit. I know I work hard for mine!

I never factored in make up! We travel a lot so normally between £300 - £400 duty free.
I buy perfume most trips which is between £80 - £300 a bottle.

negunslean · 12/05/2018 20:11

@locasta so how much annually do you reckon that is?

OP posts:
ReanimatedMuse · 12/05/2018 20:19

A lot.

Shellac Mani Pedi £90 every three weeks
Highlights £180 every 6-8 weeks
Cut every 3-4 mths £80
Up do/curls £100 per mth
Botox £1000 per year
Bikini and underarm wax £40 every 4 weeks
Toiletries and makeup approx £100 per mth (I've actually no idea but seems reasonable)

Clothes at least £600 pcm

Not including regular massages/1:1 Pilates etc

HappyGirlNow · 12/05/2018 21:29

I suppose you're right but this thread will no doubt attract the self-righteous like the designer handbag threads 🙄 Who think they have the right to pass judgement on how others spend their money and only come on to pass comment on that..

Hey ho, it's an anonymous forum, I forgot about gym fees and my love of handbags, I'd say I spend minimum £20k - £25k per annum. Minimum.

Brittanyspears · 12/05/2018 21:36

Love this thread. If it makes you feel good why not!

Lifeaback · 12/05/2018 21:56

Nails- £20 every fortnight
Wax (brows, lip, legs, pits, lady areas)- £60 every month/6 weeks
Hair- £250 for a colour and trim every 4 months, if I'm doing something nice at the weekend I'll go for a blow dry so maybe add another £30 every two weeks on top of that
Lashes- I get an LVL lash lift once a month which costs £30
Infared LED facial once every few months- £35
Spa day- £250 once every 3ish months
Gym/swim/sauna membership- £70 a month

Not including clothes/makeup. I'm sure people will be on soon to tell me how despicable that is when some people can't afford to eat, but it's my money, I work hard and am fortunate, and feeling pampered and put together helps me in all aspects of my life so is a real priority for me

egdehsdrawkcab · 12/05/2018 22:02

Also love it! Less since 2DC, but....

£150
Every other month on colour/cut

£30/week mani/pedi

£40/month waxing

£70/month gym

Maybe £60/75 month on make up/beauty

£££ who knows on clothes

I'm definitely not the moat spendy of my friends on this sort of stuff either....

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 12/05/2018 22:02

I came to look as I was curious...wow this is big business! I'm fascinated by this window into another world.

Yvest · 12/05/2018 22:13

Shellac every 3 weeks £14
Pedi once a month £16
Botox 3x a year £179 each time
Threading once a month £6
Root tint and blow dry every 5 weeks £65
Make up : very little foundation lasts 3-4 months at £30, mascara £12 every 3 months, bronzer twice a year £24 each
Clothes £100 a month plus 3-4 blow outs of one off pieces (nice handbag, north face coat, good boots) circa £200 each

NancyBlackettsRedCap · 13/05/2018 06:55

Hair cut / roots coloured £45 every 8 weeks. Should be more frequent but I forget.

Pedicure - none last year, but I've had one this year.

Makeup - bought a new eyeshadow in Jan.

Products - about 20 a month for shampoo, conditioner, cleansers, SPF, Boots make you younger gel stuff.

Clothes - varies from nothing (usually) to about 300 tops.

I do spend a fair bit on camera stuff and Kindle books though.

Kingsclerelass · 13/05/2018 07:08

NancyB, you made me feel less like an alien. Grin

SandysMam · 13/05/2018 07:11

This thread is quite inspiring. I am a money hoarder but often feel shit about my appearance. Trying to give myself permission to spend a bit more so I can feel good and enjoy this one life we have.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/05/2018 07:13

Shock at some of the hairdresser prices. Are these in London?

I don't know how much I spend because everything lasts for ages.

Cut and colour every 5 weeks £50
Make up and toiletries probably no more than £50 a month
Never have finger nails done. Last year's pedicures ruined my toe nails so looking for somewhere that won't. They cost £25 at the time
Fitness classes about £10 a week
Clothes maybe £100 -£200 a month. I have no idea really, just guessing.
I have an epilator but do get my eyebrows threaded every now and again at £7.50

Lanaa · 13/05/2018 07:17

I try to limit it to £500 a month. Depending on what skin treatments I'm having and time of year, sometimes it can be a little more or sometimes a bit less. Out of the £500 I have:

  • PT sessions x 4
  • monthly pedicure.
  • monthly facial
  • fractional laser
  • skincare products.
  • clothes. I'm in the process of losing weight so I'm spending a lot on clothes at the moment. I'm trying to buy second hand on eBay. When I hit my goal weight I'll buy good quality expensive things that will last so this expenditure will reduce.
  • hair appointments. I hate doing my own hair so have it washed and deep conditioned once a week in a salon. I have an Afro and it takes a lot of work to keep beautiful. I also have hair extensions, occasional braids, and wear wigs that aren't cheap.
ihatethecold · 13/05/2018 07:24

How lovely. I’d love to spend more on myself. I get my nails done about 3 times a year at £30 each time and get my haircut 2 or 3 times a year at about £28

Probably spend £100 per year on make up and the same on face care like serums etc.
I look young for my age so I think that’s why I’m getting away with not much maintenance.

TinyPawz · 13/05/2018 07:25

I love these threads, I'm not high maintenance but would secretly love to be better put together. Too lazy for my own good really.

Parentingissotough · 13/05/2018 07:35

This really is going to be a hilarious divide isn’t it! Not judging at all - one of my best friends has loads of cash and loves spending it on hair, make up, clothes, lazer this and permanent make up that...I on the other hand...
Hair cut £50 every 4 months (but getting it coloured for the first time this week!!!)
Clothes £100 a month
Make up £10 a month - usually something from the supermarket thrown in when doing the shopping. Other than that I rely on Christmas advent calendars and birthdays for my ‘face glue’ 😂 I have never been any good at make up and I’m too old to start now. When I fight with eye liner I always lose and look like I’ve done several rounds with Mike Tyson. It’s not pretty.
Every now and then I’ll have a splurge but honestly I’m happy with how it is. Actually think since my DS I’m more confident - am wearing much more colour and about to put some in my hair. I do treat myself to the spa about once every 6 weeks though - just me and 2 glorious hours of peace. Plus I see an osteo every fortnight, so I guess that’s another £250 every couple of months.
Whatever works for you Smile

MadMaryBoddington · 13/05/2018 07:50

I used to be high maintenance with monthly pedicures and facials, and spent a lot on clothes, but now a combination of looking shit post children, age, lack of time and sheer laziness has turned me into a scruff bag. I rarely even bother with makeup these days. I do still blow £200 a time on my hair though; I will never give that up. The rest though - must try harder. The money is there.

Notamorningperson84 · 13/05/2018 08:05

This thread is eye opening! I'd often wondered how other women seem to look so polished all of the time. Clearly there's a lot of money goes into it. This makes me feel better, I thought I was just shit at the girly stuff.

Mine:
Haircut every 6 months or so when i finally get round to it. £25
Mani/pedi possibly once a year with a Groupon. £15
Make up £20 or so every few months. I mostly just wear bb cream, mascara and tinted lip balm unless I'm going on a night out.
Hair removal is just shaving and plucking so about £5 a month on razors.
Massages occasionally at £30 so about £90 a year.
Gym £25 a month.
Clothes are mostly cheap basics as I'm trying to lose weight, once i get bank to my old weight I'll treat myself - so for now £30 a month.

Under 1k annually even if I've under estimated.

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 13/05/2018 08:24

This thread got me thinking so I started adding it up, I'll add mine for fun. I think £150 a year would cover all beauty products including shampoo and that kind of thing. Hair is cut by family member. Obviously I am low maintenance! I don't get anything else done. I love clothes though, and must admit to spending 100-200 a month, which seems ridiculous!

Pinkroseuk · 13/05/2018 08:53

Love reading this thread- I don't spend a lot on myself as always feel guilty-
Hair £20 every 6 months
Clothes and other stuff probably £20 a month maybe-
My MIL classes me as high maintenance and regularly tells my OH that I should cut back!

I have recently had a massive wardrobe sort out and sold A load so enjoying using that money to get some new things- I could get hooked on new clothes though!

Fresta · 13/05/2018 09:02

Wow! This makes me feel less guilty about what I spend.

I don't think I'm high maintenance (although DH does). I usually spend:

Hair- £65 every six weeks,
Skincare- about £150 every 3 months,
Clothes/shoes- about £1000 over every season, (so twice a year)
Make-up- a bit sporadic with this- sometimes I buy lots and sometimes go ages with nothing- so about £40 a month I'd say.

I don't have any salon beauty treatments so I'm pretty low maintenance that way!
