If you spend a lot/ are high maintenance....

How much do you spend?
I’m using an excel spread sheet to track spending during the year. I have separated out clothes in one column and beauty in another. I would classify myself as high maintenance. Regular nails, hair cut and colour and clothes. I am interested to know what others spend (if you don’t mind disclosing) monthly or annually, if you consider yourself a high spender in that area. Just interested in trying to gauge where I am on the spending scale!

Hmm never really totted it up but;

Shellac spa pedi every 6 weeks £55 (£495 pa)
Shellac manicure every 3 weeks £35 ( £630 pa)
Hair roots dyed every 6 weeks, hair extensions reapplied every 12 weeks and new ones once a year. Probably (£1000 pa)
Spray tan around once a month £25 (£300pa)
Facial once a month £45 (£540pa)
Massage every two weeks £45 (£540pa)
Products / make up probably £200 per month so (£2400 pa)

BonnieF · 13/05/2018 18:05

Wow.

It really is a completely different world, isn’t it?

For me :
Hair : £25, 3 or 4 times a year
Make-up : don’t wear it.
Toiletries : £20 per month
Mani, pedi, waxing, threading : never had any of them.
Clothes : less than £500 per year on non-equestrian clothing. I hate clothes shopping.

Don’t ask how much I spend on my horses or my cars, however....Blush

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 13/05/2018 18:07

Shit - forgot gym membership / yoga classes
£120 per month (£1400 odd per annum
Clothes about (£2400 per annum)

negunslean · 13/05/2018 18:39

It’s very interesting isn’t it? For the pp who asked what we earn, and how we make time; my circumstances are this;
I’m late 40’s own business with DH
Work 3 days week, long days 5.30am-8pm, DH works FT
We are now reaping the bigger bucks £300k per year
Commute to our office is 2 hours each way so loads of time for online shopping!
Have 2 older kids put through private school so now more disposable income.
Have looked like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards/forwards/sideways for the last 15 years so am thoroughly enjoying my new high maintenance look!

@negunslean - that's lovely to hear. You've worked so hard by the sound sof it, so why not spend a bit on yourself now?

Ivgotasecretcanyoukeepit · 13/05/2018 18:59

I have never really thought about but...

Nails - acrylic sculpts twice per month - £110
Toes - pedicure + gel toes twice per month - £75
Hair - 3 x blow drys weekly - £400
Body/face - massage £67 x 2 per month - £134
Facial x1 per month £125
Reflexology £55
Body wrap -£75
Spray tan x 4 £116
Makeup - depends on what I have ran out of but approx £250
Clothes - again depends if I am making big purchases or have a holiday coming up so far spent £820 this month.
Gym and PT - £500

I don’t have to pay for waxing anymore as I have had full body laser and there is always adhoc things I will do.

Confusssed · 13/05/2018 19:24

£8 per week on a yoga class

£25 per month on a pedicure

£45 every 6 weeks on a full leg + bikini wax

£100 a year on teeth whitening syringes (already have custom fit trays)

£150 - £200 per month on clothes/shoes but I buy A LOT off Depop & eBay, as I love top quality but also love a bargin too.

Not really sure what my skin care costs per month, but I double cleanse twice a day with a Ren Rosa Centifolia cleanser + an expensive serum + TO Granactive Retinoid 2% + a Kiehl's SPF 50 moisturiser/sunscreen. So it isn't cheap.

My make up bag is all Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Urban Decay and Laura Mercier.

My hair always looks great but it costs me nothing because my Aunt cuts and tints it, and she originally trained at Vidal Sassoon in London and styled lots of celebrities in the 70s and 80s, so I'm very lucky.

fascinated · 13/05/2018 19:30

Staggered by these amounts!

phoebemac · 13/05/2018 19:33

Gosh, now I can see why I'm a scruff and others are so well groomed. I'm too lazy and too tight to do most of this. Although am considering botox "sprinkles"...

Givemethebiggestslice · 13/05/2018 19:34

I consider myself ‘medium maintenance’:

  • haircut £50 3x year = £150
  • hair colour - DIY £5 4x year = £20
  • hair products / styling tools £150 year
  • make up - £100 year
  • teeth whitening -£30 year top up
  • fake tan £40ish year (3x bottles St Tropez in shower)
  • general toiletries (shower gel, body lotion, face wash and cream, hand cream razors etc) £200 year
  • do own nails, £30 year on polish
  • Footner £20 year
  • no salon treatments
  • no gym (I cycle and run)
  • perfume £40 year
  • clothes £1200 year

So approx £2k per year

bengalcat · 13/05/2018 19:41

£20 weekly blow dry
£500 Botox annual
£60 six weekly leg and bikini wax
£100 monthly gym
£120 annual clarins anti cellulite cream ( lol )
£15 ponds moisturiser

Notquitewhatimeant · 13/05/2018 19:45

This is such an interesting thread. I love it OP.

Probably £30 skincare and makeup which seems low given how much I love the stuff but I don’t get through any of it fast and if I find a good value brand that works then am very happy to use that
Hair £90 every 12 weeks (London prices 🙄)
Clothes £200 maybe less
Exercise at home and run
Never do anything exciting with nails and paint my toes maybe twice a year. I love it on other people but hate chipping or smudging it myself. Just keep them very clean and tidy instead.

Pomegranatepompom · 13/05/2018 19:46

I try to keep a record, last year I felt annoyed as I purchased a couple of things I don't love, hate wasting money. So this year, I am only buying things I think I will wear/use lots.

Pedicure most months £25 (300 year)
Eyebrow threading monthly £7 (£84)
Cut/blow dry/colour £60 x 4 (£240)
Colour at home in between ? £60
Normally at least 1 good bag (Mulberry/Coach/Kate Spade) - ? £1000
Clothes/shoes mix of mid range brands - max £200 month.
I get the liberty advent calendar and top up with make/up/toiletired to maximum £500
Hair - use Aveda products, so around £200 a year.

Maximum£400 per month, but I think overall it's less as some months I don't buy clothes.

I had far less to spend on myself until my 40's.

Pomegranatepompom · 13/05/2018 19:47

No gym, I run. Don't like massages. Have an odd spa day, not every year.

Ridiculouslyso · 13/05/2018 19:53

Pedicure 3x year £30
Hair cut and colour in salon 3x year £60-70
Hair mobile hairdresser 3x year £15
Massage 3x year £45
Eyebrow threading 6x year £7
Makeup approx £10 month
Skin and haircare £20 month

Clothes/shoes £60 minimum month, including running trainers which are expensive

hildabaker · 13/05/2018 20:13

This thread is making me feel better about the amounts I spend. On average

  • clothes/shoes £500 per month
  • face cream/makeup £150 per month
  • botox /fillers/ skin treatments 3K approx per year
  • hair £100 per month
notmypropername · 13/05/2018 20:42

Where the fuck do they charge £250 for a colour and a cut?!?!? I pay £80 and I thought that was expensive

notmypropername · 13/05/2018 20:45

Nails £20 every 2 weeks
Lashes £25 every 2 weeks
Botox 3 monthly £250
Skincare probably £500 a year
Gym £30 a month
Massage £30 every 2 weeks
Spa maybe twice a year £200 each
Hair mainly DIY probably 2 visits a year at £80

userxx · 13/05/2018 20:52

Wow the cost of cut and colour is unbelievable! My 3 best mates are hair stylists, I'm a very lucky girl.

LoniceraJaponica · 13/05/2018 20:53

I'm staggered at the number of people who have Botox. I had no idea it was so popular.

userxx · 13/05/2018 21:00

@LoniceraJaponica it's the way forward.

50andgoingstrong · 13/05/2018 21:11

I'm relatively low maintenance.

Hair £20 cut £35 colour every 6 weeks
Skin around £5 a month, simple wash and Aldi serum.
Make up. £8 pm. Bare minerals and mascara, bit of Vaseline. That's all I wear.
Clothes £100 pm
No salon treatments just buff nails and use nail oil, but I do have at least a monthly massage £55 pm
I run and do yoga, so that's all free except shoes - £90 every 6 months.

notmypropername · 13/05/2018 21:11

Loni Botox is excellent, prevents the lines coming / getting worse. Not filler so doesn't make you look weird or puffy: in fact I don't think it's noticeable at all done rightly. Just makes you look better!

Bea1985 · 13/05/2018 21:19

This is my fantasy thread and I'm so enjoying reading ! If you can afford it why not feel good. I prob spend about £200 a year on ALL beauty stuff (2x trims at supercuts , restock 4-5 high street make up items, but boots cheaper own brand face cream, do my own nails and eyebrows, box hair dyes - but I only use 1/2 a box at a time !). I'm really enjoying reading about all the lovely things people spend money on !

fascinated · 13/05/2018 21:44

As long as you are all up to date with your pensions then go ahead!
