I'm considering going to wedding as a guest without a handbag. Impractical?

I hate waste and like a nice bag so I can't get a little single-use cheapy.

I don't need a fancy little clutch. I loathe the idea of actually clutching it all day, and I don't want a little thing bouncing about on a flimsy shoulder trap all day. I haven't been to a wedding in years and I'm grumpy as hell at having to go to this one, can you tell?

I have invested in a nice outfit as my standby was a little weary looking, but I simply cannot think of a bag that I would both really want (that would go with this outfit) AND that I would ever use again.

I didn't have this problem with the shoes!

So, how impractical is it to simply not have one? We are staying in the hotel where the wedding is being held, so I can always pop up to the room. The outfit I'll be wearing is a jacket and skirt combo and the jacket has little pockets. I think I'll feel fabulously freed up... but I'm a little anxious as the only time I leave the house without some sort of bag is when walking the dogs.

So, what would be your absolute essentials? I won't be needing to take pics so won't need my phone.

We - so whoever you're with has room key and money...

dudsville · 12/05/2018 17:35

Good point, I can put room key and money in one of my pockets!

Lipstick, powder, phone, money, tissues. Personally, I'd get on eBay or pop to TK max for a bag, then sell on eBay afterwards!

GrainneWail · 12/05/2018 19:55

If you have sufficient pocket for your room key/card and lippy, you're sorted. I had the same dilemma recently but no pockets so borrowed a bag from a friend for the weekend.

...and me too especially because the colour is navy that I'm wearing and most of my clothes are black. I probably will buy an ebay cheapie and then put in the charity bag.

If you have a partner then give stuff to them. I'd only want to touch up make up so could go to room for that. You could even leave keycard at reception. Cash for drinks? A purse with a wrist strap? Can fit money and lippy in those.

I've done this before. DH carried the room key key and my phone. It worked because the venue was small, so easy to nip back to the room when I wanted to touch up.

I never have a bag - but have a DH with a sporran Grin

notangelinajolie · 12/05/2018 20:13

I never use a handbag. All I have when I go out is my phone which I can hold in my hand. DH has cash and keys in his pocket and we are ready to go.

Where will you keep your handbag vodka? (JOKE!)

Where will you keep your handbag vodka?
One year we stashed ours in a bush (classy)

museumum · 12/05/2018 21:43

Money, phone (camera) and key.

If your pockets are big enough go for it.

dudsville · 13/05/2018 05:36

Thanks all. I'm feeling much more confident about the decision now! I will carry a tissue, lip balm and lipstick. I won't need my phone and will stash the litres of alcohol I'd normally keep in my bag in the shrubs. The last one is a joke. Ah, to be untethered, I'm looking forward to that now!
