Do spanx actually work?!

I mean, I l know they won't make me slim, but do they smooth things out?I have a big overhang post DC that is getting me down. Wondering if spanx would smooth stuff out enough so that i can actually wear jeans without looking horrendous?!

I got a pack of 3 black stretchy pants from Primark for a fiver, they do a fab job!!( Spanx too uncomfortable for me) - I had a csection and they do a fab job imo!!

Psychobabble123 · 12/05/2018 16:05

I know the ones you mean but my tummy is massive, I need more help than that Sad I don't mind being uncomfortable if they work.

Have you by any chance got separated stomach muscles if you say your tummy is huge? I have and spanx actually make me feel sick /faint. Too much pressure. Easy to check with utube video!

whoknewitwouldbethishard · 12/05/2018 16:14

I always just thought they'd push everything up and it would spill out elsewhere 🙈

totallyliterally · 12/05/2018 16:15

Yes they really do, and are very comfy. But I found only the actual Spanx work well and don't just move the rolls abut. Wore mine for my wedding (size 16) and made huge difference. Not I wasn't suddenly a size 10 but the jiggle stops and felt secure and stomach flattened. I use the high to bra ones and to above knees

K80E · 12/05/2018 16:16

I have some Spanx I've got some for my wedding I think they work I got the ones that go right up to the bust and then go a little bit down the thighs.

WhiskeySourpuss · 12/05/2018 16:20

I have fab wear your own bra slips in black & nude from Tesco that I wear under dresses & skirts and I much prefer them to the Spanx short things for comfort & smoothing

namechangedtoday15 · 12/05/2018 16:24

I agree with a pp that the original brand Spanx work - not the various imitations. I have the cycling short type - they do make me look slimmer. I think they just compress everything so it's all taut and smooth, rather than more flexible / wobbly if that makes sense.

Have never worn them under jeans - that might be hot - but I wear them under dresses and jumpsuits for a smooth, firm, slightly slimmer bottom and stomach!

Not sure they're an everyday solution - i tend to wear for special occasions / nights out etc as they're ok to wear but not what I'd describe as comfortable.

villainousbroodmare · 12/05/2018 16:29

The higher they come and the longer they are, the better the effect, but obv if you are wearing them with a shorter-than-floor-length dress you risk an unattractive glimpse of nana knickers when you sit down and cross your legs! Not v comfortable either.

dudsville · 12/05/2018 17:34

They do work, but do get your actual size or a size UP for comfort, to lessen the chance that it will roll or cause bloating.

Spartacunt · 12/05/2018 18:41

Do they still do the ones with an open gusset? You REALLY don't want to fall over in those.

elQuintoConyo · 12/05/2018 18:49

And flash your namesake Spartacunt ? Grin

I have tried different brands of control knickers on and they just roll down over my gut so i have given up. Tits-to-knees type might work but i love in a hot country and would be extremely uncomfortable.

I'll be keeping my eye on this thread!

Psychobabble123 · 12/05/2018 18:56

I think I'll just go for it and order one in a size up. Anyone seen any nice tops about that hang nicely and camouflage tummies?!

OP posts:
DrowningEveryDay · 13/05/2018 00:36

I think they smooth things out and make clothes look nicer yes. I don't have one but I want to get one when I have lost enough weight, as they're expensive.

Candyflip · 13/05/2018 06:17

I don’t like the pants as they make your arse look weirdly long and flat, but the waist ones are really good. I still have a stone until I am my ideal (old) weight and the waist slimmer makes all my old clothes fit and gives a very flat stomach.

Almostthere15 · 13/05/2018 08:26

They do work but they aren't an everyday solution. I like marks tummy control Brazilian because they come up quite high but still look and feel like regular pants for day to day.

You can sometimes get spanx more cheaply in tkmaxx but it's hit and miss

Psychobabble123 · 13/05/2018 08:54

As I'm losing weight it is going down but could be a year before its anywhere near being flat.

April yes I have got seperated muscles, does that mean I'll always have a bulging stomach?!! 😱

Even tights or a lightweight bodystocking will smooth things out. The Spanx inventor says she developed them after wearing tights she'd cut the bottom of the legs off.

Wolford do lovely ones or check out the online sex shops for cheaper versions that are crotchless if you're going the full body/legs one for complete smoothness.

Psychobabble - I watched an old Embarrassing Bodies with your problem this week. She had a great surgical result.

Carnegiecrumbs · 13/05/2018 17:02

In winter the tights with the shorts legs and waistband that go all the way up to your ribs ftw!
