Majirel hair colour

I have mid brown hair with a fair smattering of grey.

I am fed up with box dyes but can't afford the time or money for salon colour every three to four weeks.

Box colour either makes my hair orangey brown (if I try and go light brown) or really flat dark brown if I try a mid brown colour.

I have heard that you can buy the majirel professional colours from Sally's or elsewhere online but I have no idea what colours to use or how to mix them etc.

Any suggestions or tips?

Majirel needs to be mixed with a 1:1/2 ratio with a cream hydrogen peroxide developer.
Which volume developer you need depends on how much lift you need to achieve your desired colour. 20 volume (6%) is needed for grey hair.
If you have more than 50% grey then you need two Majirel tubes, one of your base colour (for example 5 for medium brown hair) and one of your desired colour (for example 5.3). So it would be 25ml 5, 25ml 5.3 and 75ml peroxide.

Sorry, that should've said 1:1 1/2 ratio. So one 50ml tube to 75ml of peroxide developer.

And remember if you are just doing a root touch up don't go over your old colour as you will be just loading extra tint in there which will mean your roots and ends won't match.
Can you maybe get a friend to help you do this with a tint brush and bowl? They are cheap and easy to find, they sell them at Boots. You will get a much more professional result that way.

Thank you for the reply.

I have less than 50% grey.

I already use a tint brush and bowl as I have such thick hair, I'd never get to the roots otherwise.

So I only need one majirel colour? And the peroxide?

Yes. Sally's have the Majirel colour guides so you can look through and find your ideal colour. You need 20 volume (6%) cream peroxide. You don't need the L'Oreal peroxide, a cheaper brand will work fine.
