Style my vintage dress...

Bought this dress online, it arrived today and it's BEAUTIFUL! Picture seriously does not do it justice. It fits like a dream and the fitted waist and super full skirt accentuate my waist perfect! So happy with it! It is navy blue with a pattern of tiny white bows.

I have two events that I am hoping to wear this for, Royal Ascot and a September wedding. Please help with styling!

Shoes need to be comfortable as will be on my feet a lot and price is definitely a factor overall!

Please inspire me!

Bumping for you. Any chance of a picture of it on? I think it'll give a better idea

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 11/05/2018 20:58

Good idea! I'll see if I can have a quick try on tomorrow! Smile

I would wear with silver metallic block heels

Racecardriver · 11/05/2018 21:17

Boater hat would look good. Keep shoes neutral because the x pattern is fairly in your face.

Bratsandtwats · 11/05/2018 21:21

I was going to suggest red accessories.

What a beautiful dress! Would you mind sharing where you got it from?

I have a pair of tan platform wedges that I would wear this a dress like that, but I know they're a dirty word amongst stylish people, so pretend I never said anything Grin

No necklace, but statement gold earrings would look lovely.

Westwoodviv75 · 11/05/2018 21:27

It's a lovely dress.
Depends if you want to keep a slight vintage feel or bring it more up to date.
As a lot said - a block heel, comfortable and suitable for races and wearing all day. Seen some great shoes in M&S recently.

Don't be a afraid of a clashing pattern or colour combo. Matchy matchy will date you in my humble opinion.
Do you like a certain colour or design? This dress will lend itself to most things.
I would even allow the possibility of a skinny belt in a contrasting colour or pattern. A little birdcage net headpiece would sit well too.
Have fun!!

I would wear some 1940s style Mary Jane shoes.. it's lovely.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 11/05/2018 21:36

I'd like to modernise it so I don't look like I've raided my grandmas wardrobe! I like the idea of a contrasting colour, perhaps hot pink?

I love jauntily angled disc style fascinators, the bigger the better!

Shoes are potentially a problem as I have huge feet so finding a good comfortable fit is tricky!

The dress is Vintage Berkertex, off eBay!

It's actually the fourth vintage Berkertex dress I have bought as I love them so much! Something about the style and fit of them just feels so comfortable and suit my shape.

Rose gold accessories? Goes well with navy and is definitely modern. Perhaps with a nude shoe?

GinIsIn · 11/05/2018 21:52

I think yellow block heels and a big floppy straw hat would be amazing.

I have these and they are really comfy.....

Ooh and the red/watermelon too!

That's definitely the kind of look I'm after I think, funked up with accessories! Grin

Hot pink with navy is a great combination. Just mix the accessories slightly in colour or even texture so not to look too done.
If you want to modernise, steer clear of pearls, cardigans and Mary Jane's! Sorry to p.o.!
If you find it hard to find shoes, make them more neutral and less attention seeking and go a bit mad on the bag and hat.

Westwoodviv75 · 11/05/2018 22:03

Sorry - cross post!
Yay - you will look fab!

GinIsIn · 11/05/2018 22:09

How funny someone posted a fruit bag right after I linked those yellow shoes - I wore mine with this Kate Spade bag!

Haven't managed to get a picture with the dress on today! If it helps it's just below my knees (perfect midi length!) and the sleeves are just below my elbows!

The sleeves are the only thing I'm ever so slightly unsure of, I'm wondering if I could have it altered to some sort of cap sleeve?
