Help settle an argument - inappropriate cami

So today I wore something like this to work (investment firm)
(silk cami with lace trimming under a blazer. I have average boobs of 32-34DD, so a bit of cleavage shows)
cdn-img.instyle.com/sites/default/files/styles/684xflex/public/1472244241/082616-silk-cami-lead.jpg?itok=ERAROM5H

Two women commented that the cami is inappropriate for work environment, is suggestive and a satin cami like that "belongs in the bedroom". Unsolicited comment aside, I am just wondering, is this really that inappropriate? I was a little shocked.

Mind you there are PAs in our firm that dress in short and tight dresses with platform heels, but I don't want to be lumped in with them...

I have to admit I wouldn't have worn it in your work environment (or mine). It does look like lingerie even if it doesn't actually reveal much.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 11/05/2018 15:19

I don’t think it’s appropriate for work either, not in that sort of formal-type job anyway.

TheEmmaDilemma · 11/05/2018 15:20

Not daytime work wear, sorry.

ourkidmolly · 11/05/2018 15:21

Don't be ridiculous.

ourkidmolly · 11/05/2018 15:22

As for your comment about being lumped in with the PAs.

PollyBanana · 11/05/2018 15:25

I have 32DD boobs and anything that showed cleavage would been pretty revealing and NSFW.
If your a 38 F, pretty much anything lower than a polo neck will show a bit of cleavage

NoYouDontHaveThat · 11/05/2018 15:31

Inappropriate.

WhiskeyStone · 11/05/2018 15:31

I think it looks perfectly normal no one in my office would have batted an eyelid.

Hoppinggreen · 11/05/2018 15:32

Not appropriate

EchidnasPhone · 11/05/2018 15:34

Not inappropriate in my opinion. It’s fashion & I think looks really sleek. Was there envy mixed with disapproval?

lemonsunshinecake · 11/05/2018 15:40

It's totally fine.

Viviene · 11/05/2018 15:44

Inappropriate for work imo. I wouldn't wear it to work and I work in a really casual office.

cervicalcheckconcerns · 11/05/2018 15:45

I think inappropriate. I would have similar sized boobs to you and I would be wary about wearing that out to a dinner with friends in case it looked incongruous and like I was on the pull, never mind in work!

ClinkyMonkey · 11/05/2018 15:46

It's a great look, but doesn't seem suitable for work. Your colleagues should have kept their opinions to themselves though. None of their business.

rubybleu · 11/05/2018 15:47

I think it’s on the border of appropriate.

Dressed as in that photo, not appropriate.

With a dark suit and some fairly conservative shoes, probably OK as long as the neck line doesn’t dip too far into your cleavage.

trashbot · 11/05/2018 15:48

I read "cami" and thought uhhhh maybe not but if it's worn like in the picture I think it's fine

TheHobbitMum · 11/05/2018 15:49

Eeek! I wouldnt wear that to work, looks very much like lingerie

TroubledLichen · 11/05/2018 15:49

Sounds like the women at your firm spend a lot of time judging what the others are wearing...

As you’ve asked I don’t think it necessarily belongs in the bedroom but it definitely doesn’t belong at work either, unless you’re a hostess in a nightclub. Save it for a date night or going out for drinks when you want to bring the sexy. Great top though, just not appropriate work wear!

bekindtobees · 11/05/2018 15:51

Looks fine.

MsHomeSlice · 11/05/2018 15:51

I would think you had forgotten your blouse tbh. And probably wonder where you had left it.

LadyDuplo · 11/05/2018 15:53

Inappropriate- as was your comment about the PA's.

AfterSchoolWorry · 11/05/2018 15:55

Silk and lace are probably a bit to sexy for corporate setting.

BrownTurkey · 11/05/2018 15:56

People just associate that kind of fabric with underwear. One of my colleagues once wore a short strappy dress in that material with nothing over it (looked like a sexy nightdress) I believe it was designer and £££ and she just felt so good in it she wanted to wear it, but that did raise a few eyebrows. I think you could get away with either the material or the cleavage, but obviously both together tipped it into inappropriate.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 11/05/2018 15:57

A plain untrimmed cami with a higher neckline would have been OK IMO, but the lace trim and low neck on that one make it inappropriate for most workplaces, even under a jacket.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 11/05/2018 15:58

Ps. Investment firms generally do lean more conservative sartorially than most workplaces, as I'm sure you must know.
