Hello. I’ve been dealing with melasma for a few years now and now the sun is out in force, it’s starting to make itself known again...

Just wondered what people do to minimise and cover their Melasma? Sali Hughes shares some useful tips, but what do most people do over the warmer months?

I use Bobbi Brown face protector (SPF50) over my normal moisturiser (also has SPF 25). Then a bit of concealer over the patches on my cheekbones/forehead. Can anyone recommend any other sunscreens? Or a good concealer (I use a Chanel one currently, but it doesn’t last long and can start to look a bit powdery). Any other products people can recommend?

I’m well aware the skin lightening creams for pigmentation are useless for melasma, so it’s more protection and masking tips I’m after!!

Thanks 😃

Do you use a hormonal contraceptive? When I started to get melasma, my GP suggested a change in pill, which stopped it. No specific product suggestions, I'm afraid; I used a tinted facial sunscreen until the melasma faded, but I can't remember the brand name.

It was pregnancy related and never shifted afterwards.

I got this when pregnant 3 years ago. It’s really bad now the sun is out. I just slap foundation on. Not sure what else to do. Find myself wishing winter would hurry up lol

I reduced mine with retina a and diligent sunscreen usage. Now that I'm off retin a and pregnant it's come back. Watching for any tips.

Thanks for replying! What sunscreens do people use? I’m starting to doubt how effective mine is...

Hi,for the last 6 months I've been using Ultrasun anti pigmentation cream factor 50. When it's been sunny for the last few week my Melasma hasn't worsened or come up so I think it's working. On really sunny days I stick a bit of Clinique City block of any other sun cream on top of my cheeks which are the worst affected.
The Ultrasun seem to really adhere to my skin, and I can wear foundation on top with no issues.
I have a Mirena Coil, can't take it out as it controls my periods.

I use it every day btw

I have recently switched to Smashbox foundation which is buildable so I apply it more heavily over my cheekbones and temples. Last year I had Laura Geller baked foundation which again was applied more heavily where needed, but I'm fed up with the matte look. For sunscreen I have been using La Roche Posay Anthelios. It seems to help.
