Hello all, first time poster though serial lurker (4 dc 21 15 14 7).

So I am 5.1 approx 14 stone bmi of 40! I never wear make up and apart from my early teens not been interested in any kind of style. I have ample bottom and bust as well as thighs and mum tummy.

Am currently a first year student nurse with zero money I'm a lone parent. Been a rough few years but after leaving a 25 year abusive relationship I've found myself finally.

Which brings me to my dilemma. I have £25 max I can spend on an outfit to go on a date with my friends brother! I've known him since I was 11 but not in a romantic sense. She's played matchmaker and we are having coffee on Sunday afternoon. Not seen each other in a long time and I do want to look presentable

I'm thinking a black jumpsuit with tapered leg hoop earrings. It's something I can wear again and again and I have a denim jacket somewhere

Many thanks for reading

I'm not sure to be honest, it's just coffee. I'd probably opt for nice jeans and a casual top, with hair and make up done. However you can't do double denim. I think Sunday is supposed to be quite hot so you might not need a jacket and then may look over dressed in a black jumpsuit.

I'm not a fan of hoop earring, it really depends on the size, but think you need long hair to pull them off.

Ultimately though uou want to wear what's comfy for you and you feel good in.

Thank you that's really good advice and I hadn't even thought of the weather!

For a first date, and a casual one at that, I'd go for an outfit that you already have and know you feel your best in. Nothing worse than a new outfit that you're not quite sure about and spend the whole time feeling self-conscious or fiddling with it. What's in your wardrobe that you really like?

wizzywig · 11/05/2018 10:22

It sounds perfect. And good luck. Youve done so well to make all the lifechanging moves.

froglou · 11/05/2018 10:25

I'd go more casual than dressy! If you're looking for jeans I'd go high waisted. You can be causal in a jumpsuit but I'd leave the earring out they sound more dressy. I wouldn't go with heels or anything. More important than anything you need to feel comfortable in yourself! Have fun :)

Bluntness100 · 11/05/2018 10:25

I'd maybe go for a straight leg rather than skinny.

Maybe the black jumpsuit would be better suited to dinner or drinks, which may be the next date?

Personally I would wear some black wide leg casual jersey trousers, a black longline vest with tan bag/ sandals/wedges if you have them. Take your denim jacket because the weather is likely to be iffy and you can always take it off if too hot.

I LOVE silver hoops and wear mine constantly. I have short dark hair and it just works in my view. Red lipstick if you suit it works well too.

I have just bought some nice casual wide legs jersey trousers and vest which is around your budget. It is a slimming yet comfortable outfit for me. Will link...

vest true to size.

trousers these need to be bought a size smaller. They don’t look as pleated on the front when on. I have discarded the belt as it isn’t needed and adds bulk.

IwankaTramp · 11/05/2018 10:38

This tunic is also a possibility. This is really flattering too. The top section is double lined and it has a nice swing to it without being overly voluminous. Bung some black leggings on and some converse /sandals and you are good to go. 🙂

I haven’t bought from this brand before but picked up a top in a charity shop which said ‘capsule’ on the label, investigated who made it and have bought some basics to try as a consequence. Impressed so far.

Thank you all for your helpful advice, I live in my pyjamas or pep n co leggings when I'm not in uniform so anything will be an improvement!

Agree with others who have said go in something you are comfortable in already. I am short too and like to wear wedges to give me a bit of height. I'm usually in skinny jeans/leggings and tunic tops. A nice bag, jacket and shoes and a bit of make up will add to the look.

FluorescentAdolesent · 11/05/2018 12:51

I've just ordered some wonderfit jeans from Asda and will work from there
It's funny because this is so much more than meeting for a date - it's about how I feel about myself and I didn't realise that until today

Well done. I have some of those and they are great!
