What is this called and how do I do it?

When I was young, in the nineties, a certain hairstyle was popular in Holland (where I grew up).

I'm wondering:

• if it was popular here
• what it is called
• how to do it - as DD has just requested exactly this style which I think is quite fun(ny)!

Basically most of your hair is in a ponytail, but the hair at the front (grown out fringe for example) is combed together in mini ponytail and arranged such that there is a small hill / crest on top of you forehead. I'm rubbish at describing this...

I never had it myself as a child because I was not 'cool'

You need to tease/backcomb the hair underneath the top part of the half ponytail to get the "small hill" you're talking about.

I thought you were referring to where there is volume/ a "bump" in the ponytail. But at first I thought you were talking about something like this...

Ha I love that website Poppy! DD and I have already perfected the sectioned ponytail actually!

I'm not sure the half up half down side ponytail needs revival, I do remember wearing it though (did I mention I was not cool..)
