What to wear to a sporting event?

It's likely to be pretty warm but there's a chance of showers, lots of walking about and lots of sitting around. It's over 2 days. So far I've put a Peter storm rain poncho in my case - very elegant 😁. I can't get away with shorts as I'm old and fat. I want to feel well put together in a casual way and to be comfortable when sitting for hours and hours. And hours.

What would you wear?

Is it golf? Shorts and t shirts with a sweater/cardi. Maybe a Fred Perry dress.

Sunblock and a hat.

We went to the Ooen at Sandwich a few years ago. Despite been big togged out like a trawler man I was still soaked. It was like buckets were better no thrown at me.

Oops see you’ve ruled shorts out.

Linen trousers?

Bubblysqueak · 08/05/2018 20:23

Depends what kind of event- if you're going to Badminton I would suggest comfy flat shoes for walking over uneven ground with linen trousers nice top. If you're going to be sat in a grandstand or something I would take a thick jumper you could fold up under your bum to sit on!

It's the Spanish formula 1.

Every time I've worn linen trousers they tend to go really baggy around the knees and as I'll be sat in a grandstand quite a bit I think I'd end up looking more bag lady than anything else.

Envy very jealous. A good sun hat and lots of sun cream! Not sure if you live in the UK or not but if you're out their on holiday go for shorts. Life's too short to care what other think!

Lovely!

In that case what about some Gap chinos?

poppym12 · 08/05/2018 20:38

I'm so excited I could burst bubblysqueak. Wanted to go for years but always found a reason not to ie cost, travelling etc but I gave myself a bit of a slap and bought tickets 😁

I've got some culotte type things. Think they'd be OK? I was thinking of a jumpsuit but then realised that the toilets might not be the best so wearing a jumpsuit would mean I had to stay in there longer faffing about.

That sounds good. But if you're still struggling I'm sure I could find something to wear and go on your behalf Grin

Next have got some cropped jersey denim 'leggings' at the moment which might work (they look better than my description suggests). I would layer them with a vest/t-shirt and a lightweight jumper of some sort.

You're so kind bubblysqueak 😋
Gap chinos sound good but they closed the store nearest to us and not sure I'll have time to go into the city store.

I couldn't wear leggings I'm afraid. I'd scare small children and adults.
