Flat strappy sandals with a bit of cushioning in the sole

INeedNewShoes · 08/05/2018 15:13

Is anyone prepared to take on the challenge of helping me find some nice sandals for summer, for everyday wear?

I have abnormally little padding on the soles of my feet (wish I could transfer some from my thighs Grin so I find the very thin, hard soles on most sandals is very harsh to walk on.

They need to have at least a thin strap across the back to help keep them on my feet and a few straps across the foot (I've seen a lot that just seem to have one strap up the middle of the foot and then around the ankle - I don't think these would work for me).

My budget is roughly £60.

Any suggestions appreciated!

For context, I threw away my one pair of sandals last year which wear 11 years old. I have looked around the shops the past few summers and drawn a bit of a blank. But don't let my pickiness put you off - I need help!

FitFlop do a good range of comfy sandals and they have good sales that will bring them into your budget. They don’t just do flip flops either. www.fitflop.com/uk/en/

Have a look at Socofy sandals, some on Amazon more if they are shipped from overseas. They have great soles and tons of padding, cheap and comfortable.

DianaT1969 · 08/05/2018 15:18

Be prepared for a rush of posters telling you that Saltwater flat sandals are super-comfortable 😁
I find that Dune tend to have sandals like you describe. Have you checked their website?

SoftBlocks · 08/05/2018 15:19

What MachineBee said. Fitflops are really hard wearing as well IME.

BlossomCat · 08/05/2018 15:20

I was in Clarks yesterday, and as a woman who needs a supportive sole due to my dodgy hip, I was overly admiring the apparent comfort available.

@DianaT1969
I like the look of Saltwaters but am put off by the flat sole! I assume they are as uncomfortable as I suspect, then?

OP, I’ve just ordered some Tevas. Some of them are quite stylish (not all!) and they look comfy. Fingers crossed!

Was in a shoe shop today and Tom's have a load of very squishy looking flat strappy sandals out.

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 08/05/2018 19:47

In previous years I’ve bought such sandals from Ecco. Am currently wearing silver strappy ones from there which are almost elegant but have an ultra thick and padded sole - very comfortable indeed.

Delamereroad · 08/05/2018 20:00

Dune - Just bought some in House of Fraser sale.
Very comfortable and super soft leather

dementedma · 08/05/2018 20:17

a friend of my mothers just had a massive clear out and i gained 3 pairs of Hobbs flat sandals which are like walking on air!! no idea what they cost to buy but utterly comfortable

SaffyRosie · 08/05/2018 20:19

For good foot support you can't beat Birkenstocks. Podiatrists love them.

Also Scholl do some pretty sandals that look like they are good for your feet.

Fintress · 08/05/2018 20:22

Can't help with the sandals but anyone looking for flip flops, I bought the Iqushion ones from fitflop for my last holiday and they are super comfy and so light you don't feel like you are wearing them.

SaffyRosie · 08/05/2018 20:23

Forgot to say that flat sandals without any arch support are really bad for your feet. Flipflops and ballerinas are just about the worst thing you can wear.
A podiatrist told me that Sketchers slip on are not very good either. Not enough support and the soles are too flexible. Still feel very comfortable though

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 08/05/2018 20:24

Seasalt Sunny Cove. I need a bit of cushioning too and I find them very comfortable.

Elocampane · 08/05/2018 20:28

Try www.moshulu.co.uk - really comfy

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 08/05/2018 20:33

Couple of leftfield ones for you;

Ignoring 95% of the website for crimes against style, these Crocs are insanely comfortable and look like normal sandals when worn; albeit plastic not leather. Great for holidays.

I've just taken delivery of these, they went straight on and were great:

I never looked at Cos for shoes before, but bought a pair of their slip on ballerinas for silly money in the winter sale (exactly the same as the current full price ones) and they, and these sandals both have lovely cushioned insoles and the uppers are made from super soft leather.

These are also nice and very classic, I've not tried them though.

@MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly
Thank you they look gorgeous, just ordered in two different colours - oops Grin

Lotsofsausage · 08/05/2018 21:05

definitely not saltwater - they are very flat. I like Clarks and Birkenstocks.

MaybeDoctor · 08/05/2018 22:54

My theory is to choose the prettiest sandals from a ‘sensible’ range, as they are likely to contain the same comfort on the sole.

BigFatBloomers · 09/05/2018 00:16

I'm just about to order these as I love my Fitflop flipflops and hope these will be great for everyday wear.

INeedNewShoes · 09/05/2018 06:39

Thank you all for your suggestions!

Sorry it's taken me a while to come back to the thread.

I'm working through the various suggestions. I'll let you know how I get on.

A question to the Dune recommenders: looking online their sandals seem to have a thin sole. Are there any particular sandals that feel cushioned to walk in?

Office have loads and they're very comfy:

I bought these last year and I can walk in them all day (and I have terrible feet!):

INeedNewShoes · 09/05/2018 12:10

A little update.

I have gone through all these suggestions and have got a list of a few contenders. I've started with ordering two different styles from Moshulu; if they're no go, next stop Teva.

OP posts:
Wenchelda · 09/05/2018 14:15

Which moshulu have you gone for op? I've been following this thread with interest as I'm on the lookout for sandals too. I really like THESE moshulu ones so will be interested in your opinion of what they are like irl if you happen to have ordered the same ones!

I am also considering THESE FITFLOP ONES as I have several pairs of fitflops (flip flops, pumps and boots) and all are extremely comfortable. So I know they'd be comfy but something is holding me back.

The ones I really love are these GABOR sandals but not sure I can justify the cost!

INeedNewShoes · 09/05/2018 15:06

Wenchelda - I have ordered those very ones plus the Wasabi to try. I'll let you know how I get on.

Those Gabor sandals look good!
