I hate my hair

I got my hair cut this week and I hate it! It's naturally curly but I straighten it lots. It was really long and I got it chopped about 8 weeks ago to shoulder length. I then decided I wanted a long bob type length. My hair falls naturally in a centre parting and usually I need shorter layers around my face because otherwise it's too much hair hanging over my face. I did used to have a sweeping fringe at one point.

So anyway, usual hair dresser was not there and I ended up with the lady who runs the salon and now it looks awful. She's completely ignored my pictures, spent ages arguing with me about how I should cut it shorter so it doesn't 'flick up' and I shouldn't have layers at the front cos 'that's not a bob'. She was trying to get me to have a longer layered at the front type bob, that I didn't want cos it's just too much hair round my face. She's cut it to chin length and put bloody layers in it so now I have to spend ages curling it under otherwise the layers look stupid. But it makes me look old fashioned and I've still got too much hair in my face!

I'm really not happy with it and I want to go in and complain. But I'd want my usual girl to fix it and dunno if the manager will be funny cos she's the one who made the mess. It's also so short that I'm going to have to let it grow for a couple of months before I can get the layers cut out and it all one length I wanted. I think the only thing that will fix this is getting a fringe cut in to get hair off my face.

Any suggestions?!

Can you add a picture (with your face blanked it) so maybe we could suggest something?
I wouldn't recommend a fringe if you aren't used to it, especially if you have curly hair.
Could you tie or pin the front bit up until to grows a bit?

OK for some reason my pictures won't go the right way up. But you get the idea!

First is as it is currently, with centre parting. Second is what I'm thinking of, sweeping sideways fringe. This length, I would wear it straight so don't need to worry about how fringe would work with curly.

In all honesty I wanted it Longer, but with it layered shorter than it is now at the front.

Urgh, pics are the wrong way round now! First is what I'm thinking fringe wise and second is how it is now.

It isn't bad but I do understand your ire.

Try tonging waves in?

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/05/2018 14:03

Your complexion is beautiful, so clear [heart eyes].

Elvisola · 05/05/2018 14:05

It looks nicer with the side parting I think, it softens your face.

MsAtomicBomb · 05/05/2018 14:06

It looks much better with the side parting and sweeping fringe OP.

MadisonAvenue · 05/05/2018 14:07

Definitely the side parting and fringe, it looks much softer.

BusterGonad · 05/05/2018 14:12

Much better with the side parting, I think it needs roughing up a bit and some curls. It's very straight and flat which I don't think is flattering. I would let it naturally dry and scrunch it up with some wax then see how it looks.

It's pretty and healthy, that's a consolation! I actually really like the centre parting style, its chic and healthy, plus looks really youthful. It is about what you like of course!

I can sympathise, I had mine chopped this morning, about 12 inches has had come off over the last year because a colourist inexplicably ruined my long healthy coloured blonde hair. It's still in messy condition now as I grow it out, and while I know it is so a first world problem and will grow back as before, I wish it would hurry up!

Definitely go back to the salon if you are not happy, it sounds as if the person was crazy unprofessional. Just diplomatically say you just aren't happy and it's not the way it usually is or how you like it, could you come in and have your regular person take a look?

Then when you see your regular person, tell her the truth:) It should be fixed as much as they can free of charge and the person who did something you aren't happy with will likely be relieved that someone else is taking over the job.

Meanwhile, I'm on a mission to grow my hair strong, healthy and as quickly as possible. Research has been done!

  • take biotin supplements, they make hair stronger and speed up hair growth. I bought mine on amazon although they are less expensive on ebay.

  • take a multivitamin because just because

  • get exercise. My hair grows twice as quickly (twice!) when I get exercise in. That was quite a few hours a few times a week, but hair grows crazy fast. I see because I'm coloured blonde with dark roots, I needed the roots touched up every three weeks instead of six.

Have you thought of going with the really trendy short with messy wave style that is really in at the moment? It's shoulder length and above, yours is perfect for it. I wanted to (meaning chopping off practically all my hair) but it would need heat to style and I can use heat on fragile coloured hair. Once it is stronger I think I will go for it as it is such a gorgeous style. Your hair would be perfect for it, already has natural curl so will hold without much heat, healthy to take styling easily and perfect length. There are lots of youtube videos on how to do it, it's called a messy/wavy/textured lob. You could try that and have some fun whilst you grow it a little!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely thinking sideways fringe after seeing the two pics side by side. I'm sure the salon would probably cut that in free and without too much hassle.

My usual stylist has curly hair too so she understands what works and is usually diplomatic in explaining what works and what wouldn't. I think if I had her I probably would have got what I wanted or she would have convinced me on the fringe, instead of arguing with me like this other one did!

I think it looks lovely. It looks very healthy & shiny.
I like the centre parting too, maybe try scrunching some curls into it?
