Need a jacket for cooler days but what?

I need to ditch my old Joules quilted jacket but I do need something with a bit if warmth for casual, jeans wear. Is a very lightweight down type jacket a mad choice for spring/autumn or a cool summers day. Don't want a trench or denim jacket so no idea what to look for. Thx

Was going to say a Trench as I love mine but otherwise I also wear my jersey blazer a lot this time of year - it goes with everything and smartens me up a bit Smile. I have a grey one - I Iike blazers in every colour but black really.

thefishwhocouldwish · 05/05/2018 13:01

I live in my uniqlo ultra light down jacket, it squeezes into a drawstring bag if it gets warm later!

PiggeryPorcombe · 05/05/2018 13:03

I saw the thread title and was going to suggest a Joules quilted jacket Grin

Rockyhighway · 05/05/2018 13:11

Am wearing an ancient jersey blazer today which my I love but want something a bit warmer. Ultra light down might be way to go - am in town so will have a look. Just need a change from Joules - have had it too many years!

I like blazers, denim jackets, my trench coats, and leather bikers. I'm looking for a utility jacket at the moment, belted, and a green rather than grey khaki.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2018 13:37

I have an ultralight down jacket. It is similar warmth to a fleece, great for warm days that might cool off a bit. It has a waterproof outer too, which is helpful.

BikeRunSki · 05/05/2018 13:39

righlnockered how about this?

Banquosghost · 05/05/2018 13:41

Another vote for Uniqlo ultralight down, I wore mine this morning when it was still quite cool then packed it into its bag when it warmed up

NC4Now · 05/05/2018 13:41

I wear a utility jacket this time of year.

DameXanaduBramble · 05/05/2018 13:51

Denim jacket or non leather biker jacket.

rightknockered · 05/05/2018 14:01

That is lovely Bike

Rockyhighway · 05/05/2018 14:05

Thank you for all the suggestions. Have black leather biker jacket but am putting too much thought into what to wear on my feet with it, so it's hanging in my wardrobe. Grrr. The utility jacket is lovely but not my style. Need to look at down jackets but get away from my go to navy ... What colours don't look fuddy duddy?

A mac/trench is easy.
Denim for when it gets warm.
Suede for when it's warmish and not raining.
Leather for when it's cool/cold.
Proper coats in winter.
Bombers (as long as not padded ones) are good autumn/spring jackets.
Love outerwear, have such a collection.

Rockyhighway · 05/05/2018 14:15

I love your list user!

I love this. I'd buy it myself but can't justify it, have too many leather jackets already. The colour is gorgeous irl.

OCSock · 05/05/2018 20:17

Pondering this one. I tried on a delectable light spring down jacket in a classic soft navy double breasted reefer style this week, and it would be so useful and chic for about eight months of the year. I have looked for it online, to no avail, so no picture.

OCSock · 05/05/2018 20:18

It was expensive though.

Rockyhighway · 05/05/2018 21:32

That sounds lovely OC. I tried on a couple of Part Two light down jackets today but didn’t feel, the love. Picked up a few trenches but they’re wrong for my lifestyle (country girl). Have decided I’d like another fitted blazer but in a soft or dusky pink - not linen, more like a jersey fabric iwswim. And like the look of this deom Hush. This isn’t bad either. Wonder what their military jackets are like but not sure they’re me.

Thank you for all the suggestions today. Planning some online orders.

That’s quite nice thanks Tatapie - am spending my evening browsing!

I have a dark red leather jacket. Sounds niche but actually it goes with almost everything

Rockyhighway · 06/05/2018 17:43

Guys, the Uniqlo jacket. Is it the one with or without the collar?

Have concluded that an ultra light down is what I need but I would also like another lighter jacket - maybe one of the Hush basket weave jackets I linked above, dunno.

Like this but it’s oos in my size. I can find it elsewher but not with the discount.

I'm quite taken with this at the mo - looks practical but the pockets make it a bit more interesting.
