What bikini will flatter me please?

I’m short. Thighs/bum flabbier than I would like but shorts make it look even bigger.... going on holiday this month and for the first time I’m braving a bikini.... I’m self conscious so I think they all look bad but I don’t know which suits me? I don’t want to post a pic of me in one obviously but wondered which style is best? I’m 9 stone (still trying to lose half a stone but that’s going too slowly so I need to get one that figures the me now?)

Thank you!

Would bottoms look better with ties or will that make it worse? Top half ok, but want underwire to feel ‘secure’ whilst running around with dc in and out of pool/slides etc..,

Try seafolly high waisted bottoms and underwire top. Their swimwear is very flattering, sure it's expensive- but great investment for your body confidence!

llmb · 05/05/2018 08:19

Are they low cut legs? I think low cut makes bottom half look worse as I have short stumpy legs... but high leg I worry I’m ahowing off too much skin Grin

I’m short, and I find halter necks are the best as they ‘lengthen’ my body. I was also told by a lingerie fitter that you should always go up a size with swimwear as it is more flattering, and she was right.

elQuintoConyo · 05/05/2018 08:28

Granny-pants style bikini bottoms flatter no one, ever.

Side-tying ones are lovely, but i'm always paranoid of them undoing Grin i fit them before the holiday and actually sew them shut.

Halter necks are good especially for chasing small children and going down slides, fewer straps to worry about sliding off shoulders.

I can't recommend any brands in particular, i usually go to Decathlon and get the cheapest! Once you are in your bikini you'll notice lots of other people of different shapes and sizes not giving a fuck. I don't have a bikini body and neither do any of my friends, meh, we are all on the beach Smile

MadMaryBoddington · 05/05/2018 08:33

If you have the budget, seek out an independent lingerie shop and ask for help. Their staff can be geniuses at knowing which swimwear styles suit which shape. And be prepared to try on ones you wouldn’t normally go for.

llmb · 05/05/2018 08:41

mad don’t have any of those around where I live, and won’t have time to travel to find one before I go. I prefer halter neck, always my go to. That’s a fab idea about sewing the ties shut elquinto!

Not what you asked, but if you're white / pale, get a tan, fake or real, before you go on holiday. It's slimming.

llmb · 05/05/2018 08:53

I’m very pale. I don’t tan at all, ever. I hate fake tan as it is either patchy, stinks or as soon as I’m on holiday an in the chlorine pool etc (have done this before) it looks awful after a day or so.

Agree. Don't do high waisted.

Just go for high leg briefs.

Charley50 · 05/05/2018 08:59

I agree too about don't do high waisted!

BumbleNova · 05/05/2018 09:02

Another vote for seafolly. Expensive but they last well too. I find a halter neck and tie side bottoms are most flattering

Somersetter · 05/05/2018 09:05

Don't do high waisted, especially if you're short - you'll end up with hardly any gap between bikini top & bottoms.

Have a look at the bikinis on Figleaves - they use some very curvy models which makes it all seen more realistic.

Somersetter · 05/05/2018 09:10

Lots of halter neck styles if that's what you like: www.figleaves.com/uk/search?q=Halter+bikini&lang=en_GB

llmb · 05/05/2018 09:17

Forgot about fig leaves thanks! I won’t feel comfortable (was with an abusive ex) as in my head I’m fat and ugly and everyone will stare and laugh at me (in my head) but I’m determined this year to stick two fingers up at my past... just want to get as comfy as possible in this situation!

I always think you need to spend a little on swimwear - seafolly gets my vote but Debenhams have some good ranges too worth a look!

Went on hols with some friends a couple of years ago she'd bought some bikinis from primark they were a disaster!!

Somersetter · 05/05/2018 09:23

You will look great. Wish I could convince myself the same thing though - I'm fairly slim but haven't worn a bikini since having kids as I hate my tummy.

Dottydotts · 05/05/2018 12:18

You will look great. Your only 9 stone and yes, your problem areas are more in your head than your actual body. I would wear a sarong for walking down to the beach and when feeling insecure.

llmb · 05/05/2018 12:43

Sarong sounds good

I’m bottom/thigh heavy and got this Next bikini yesterday. Gosh it’s really nice. Even my harshest critics (kids) nodded in agreement. I’m 28E atm, got a 32D and it’s fine. 14 bottoms as I hate hate hate tight bottoms.

I find ties on the bottoms add inches to my bottom half. I agree with you OP, slightly higher cut bottoms are better on my legs. No fuss on the bottom. All the fuss on top.
Top half, most of my bikinis are halter neck, but to be completely honest I think that ordinary bra strap type ones look better on me. Balance me our or something.
Absolutely no high waist pants bottoms. Incredibly unflattering on me.

llmb · 05/05/2018 14:11

That next bikini is cute. I think the top wouldn’t flatter me, think it would squash my boobs and make me look flat chested!

Will have a look!

OP posts:
Ididnthearanything · 05/05/2018 14:14

I know. I’ve never bought a bikini top like that one and just tried it as I liked the scallop edge. Surprisingly it isn’t squoshy at all. Honestly more flattering that you’d expect.

Ididnthearanything · 05/05/2018 14:19

Also tried bottoms. Shiver. Not nice on me, too musc fabric. Tried with this top. Didn’t like. Nice bikini but I was way to em, jiggley in it, no running allowed. Too many booby parts, as the kids say.

Figleaves are good. Just the return hassle.....

llmb · 05/05/2018 14:34

Can’t see the bottoms but think Iv ordered the top on black Grin

A good fitting bikini in your correct bra size and style is what you want to be wearing. I’ve just got back from a beach holiday myself. I observed lot those that were in ill fitting tops looked dreadful eg not filling a balcony style top, or cup too small mono boobs, or side boob. But the ladies wearing correctly fitted bikini looked fantastic regardless of body type.

Have a fantastic holiday is there a bravissimo near you they stock a selection of swimwear and could fit you with a bikini
