What colour legs and feet with a navy dress?

For work, I live in either black or dark grey dress/jacket suits (quite a formal environment), but am thinking of being wildly exciting and venturing into the giddiness that is navy.

But what do I do with my legs and feet? I can cope with boring nude K-Middy tights and I generally wear closed-toe t-bar shoes (something like this but in black) when it's warmish but what do I wear if it's opaques/boots/proper shoes weather? I generally wear heels rather than flats.

Navy opaques seem odd when I look down at my legs when I'm standing up but then so do black. And also I'd be all navy, which also seems odd. I quite like black and navy worn together but would I look like I'd put on black opaques accidentally because I'd got dressed in the dark?

This is why I always wear black and dark grey...

I always understood that with navy you wear hosiery that is gunmetal in colour, but that's probably outdated now.

Navy dress, black tights and black shoes

Navy dress, navy tights and navy shoes plus cardigan, scarf or jewellery in contrasting colours (white cardigan looks nice with navy dress, but obviously there are loads of other colours you can go for)

Navy dress, navy tights and shoes in a complementary colour like red or pewter

Thank you, will try gunmetal/charcoal and will also try a contrasting jacket/cardigan. Not really a scarf-y person and the nearest I get to wearing jewellery is a black lanyard!

Red. Shock

neveradullmoment99 · 04/05/2018 13:20

I have the same dilemma. I am going to go with black tights and black shoes. Or I might try navy tights and brown shoes. Done that before and it looks ok depending upon the dress and the length.

Abra1de · 04/05/2018 13:22

Grey tights andneither black or navy shoes.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/05/2018 13:22

What also looks ok is black sheer tights and black shoes.

Paintbox · 04/05/2018 13:32

I never understand this. We can wear dark grey with black, dark green with black, why can’t we wear dark blue with black? It looks fine. Often worn in France and very chic.

CowesTwo · 04/05/2018 13:33

I often wear navy and black together and agree with Painbox, it can look very chic.

neveradullmoment99 · 04/05/2018 13:35

Navy sheer tights or opaque? [ with black shoes] or does it not matter?

TheHonGalahadThreepwood · 04/05/2018 13:39

I wear navy and black often but wouldn't do navy tights and black shoes. If I were wearing a navy dress and black shoes I'd go for black tights to make sure it looked deliberate and not as I couldn't tell the difference in the dark!

RobsAKnob · 04/05/2018 13:41

I think it can look very chic too. But on other people! I feel as though I'm wearing my old school uniform - a bit sensible or maybe it's just because I wear thick opaques. I'm not young and groovy - more middle-aged, small and thin with exploding hair (and that's another thing - why do other people look great with their hair in a bun? When I try a messy one, it just looks as though it's collapsing and when I try a neater one, I look like I'm on parade).

Haven't tried black sheer or I might try thin opaques.

Red shoes and nude legs look AMAZING with navy dresses.

unintentionalthreadkiller · 04/05/2018 13:52

I have red win coloured brogues to go with my navy dress.

CountFosco · 04/05/2018 14:01

I wear navy shoes and tights with a navy dress. Why is it any different to wearing all black?

But black and navy can look great together but you have to get the balance right, needs to be near 50:50. One small item that doesn't match, like black shoes with a navy outfit, looks all kinds of wrong.

RobsAKnob · 04/05/2018 14:09

CountFosco, I think that's it - I'm not sure about getting the balance right.

I think that, actually, I just need to accept that no-one at work is in the slightest bit interested in my legs and feet as long as they look smart and don't smell.

Agree!

RobsAKnob · 04/05/2018 15:14

I've got a very lovely pair of dark red suede heels that I bought from Hobbs years ago but have never really worn them. Shall try those - won't stop me from fixating on what to do with my legs when it's cold but would look great in the summer months.

I do navy tights and grey shoes or nude legs or tights with grey or brown shoes. Black also is fine with navy but not my favourite.

TidyLike · 04/05/2018 15:19

Tan shoes look nice with navy. You could wear them with bare legs or tan tights.

DuchyDuke · 04/05/2018 15:38

Grey tights under navy looks old fashioned now. Most people I know wear sheer black or opaques with black shoes or go for sheer nude tights with nude shoes.

CountFosco · 04/05/2018 16:24

I also agree about red and navy. I have a navy shirt dress that I wear with a red belt. Looks fab.

HeyDolly · 04/05/2018 18:00

A woman in work was wearing a navy dress suit the other day and wore it with black sheer tights and black suede heels and it look nice and not dated.

KatoPotato · 04/05/2018 18:01

Navy tights and brown boots.

Or nice tights and red shoes

2gorgeousboys · 04/05/2018 18:33

I have a couple (few!) navy dresses I wear for work and I wear them with back tights, heels and jacket, navy shoes and tights and either a mustard cardigan or navy patterned jacket or even navy tights and leopard print or navy tweed shoes. If I'm wearing nude tights then anything goes shoes wise; navy, red, nude, pink, leopard print, tweed or tan!
