Any suggestions for highlighted hair

I've got naturally dark brown hair, and have been having it highlighted for a couple of years. It's been bleached, as highlights are quite light, but the roots come through really quickly (or aren't dyed- is that the way highlights work?). The hairdresser doesn't dye all my hair, so I end up with some undyed grey hair.
It's also really pricey to get them done, so was wondering if there were any alternatives? Can I box dye, for example, or can I get anything else other than highlights? My hair is screwed, thanks to the bleach, so it is very dry. Another reason why I want to avoid highlights!

Balayage ?

Can you do balayage over bleached hair?

Yeah I'm sure you can as they do it by hand and they would section off the blonde and do the darker around it.

You'll have roots from day one with highlights as highlights (which means bleach) are like this:
full head highlights means 1 out of every 2 hairs are highlighted
half head means 1/4 of the hairs get bleached
So you'll always have roots.
You can do bleach all over or a hair dye (whether at the salon or home box dye). The roots will of course look worse so you'll need to do it more often but certainly at the salon all over dye is cheaper than highlights.

Ps here are some things to restore your hair:
I use these... my hair is currently all over platinum blonde - had my roots done after work today as it happens.

  • Morrocanoil hydrating mask
  • Coconut oil all over
  • Philip Kingsley Elasticiser
  • Aveda Damage Rescue and Dry Remedy
  • Kerastese masks

I had the same issue, lots of built up bleached highlights. Just had balayage done for the first time and it looks brilliant, a bit darker but much more natural. She put more bleach at the front so it still looks blonde around my face.

This is my daughters hair she has a root drag so she doesnt get roots that stand out in between salon visits and it blends nicely. Only issue is your greys then wouldnt be covered when they grown in still.

On 100% hotter ( I know ) the hairdresser was saying egg whites are great for over bleached hair as they contain protein and re balance the hair .. so sit with them on your hair for 20 mins under a towel a few times a week can do wonders apparently .
