Matrixyl instead of Retin A/Vit C?

I'm pretty sure, having read through all of the posts in the series by @Botemp, that I saw that Matrixyl can be used as an alternative to Retin A/Vit C.

I've used Retin A and Vit C combo on and off for several years but have come to the realisation that my skin doesn't like it very much. The Vit C hugely increases my pore size and I think the Retin A does the same.

I'd like to give Matrixyl/Matrixyl 3000 as I think I saw that it does much the same thing but without some of the side effects of Retin A. Anyone have any experience with this please? (I'm 56, told I look 10 years younger, have pretty good skin with not much in the way of lines and wrinkles and am trying to stave off the inevitable with good skincare routines and Factor 50) :)

Ehr, no, I haven't claimed as such. Matrixyl is a peptide and the science around it is very woolly, yet promising. There is evidence it works but there's no research into understanding how it works and most of the research comes from the manufacturer. In no way will it give comparable results to Retin A, nothing over the counter will. The next step down is Retinol and other other Vitamin A derivatives.

I find it highly unlikely that Vit C itself increased your pore size. It will have been down to formulation and or concentration. Less is always more in skincare and if you're sensitive skinned it's even more paramount.

It doesn't sound like you're actually in need of actives so daily year round SPF 50 (the best preventative for premature ageing) is your best friend and by the sound of it you're already on that.

Sorry, Bo, didn't mean to imply you'd written that, just that I thought I'd seen it in one of the threads (I read them all!)

It may be that the Vit C had gone off, I had had it for a month or two. I'm now just using a Retinol cream, along with Cerave AM/PM and Biore WE. I'll see how I go with this pared back routine for a few months and will think again if things start to go downhill. Thanks for replying.
