Wide leg trousers for --SAs-- petite people. Bad idea?

I'd really like to try the look but I just bought these in a size 8, which is my normal size but unfortunately, they just didn't do anything for me as it was look around the bottom and nothing like what it should be, like on the model. I don't know whether I just need a smaller size or whether it's just not the right style for my height. I'm gutted as I really like them otherwise and if there was a size 6 available, I'd have bought that to compare.

Are there any wide leg styles that would suit a shorter person? Do you own a pair that looks flattering?

Any comments welcome.
Thanks.

A lot of people say bad idea but I'm 5'3 and I disagree. I look shortest of all in skinnies - they give me no way of disguising just how short my legs are and how low my arse is sinking.

But I like my wide legs high waisted, skimming over my arse and then a straight wide leg rather than a flared one. It draws the eye up to my waist and makes my legs look longer, and it's not quite how they looked in the 90s/early 00s but more of an 80s or 40s silhouette. I'm not sure if the ones in the link would work for me either.

I love the look of them but unfortunately at under 5ft no they looked more than hideous not flattering in the slightest. I’m a size 6/8 at the moment I tried several different ones on with different tops and shoes.

In context to the above poster I don’t have a sinking arse as Flo put it mines a perky peach worked hard for. My legs look fantastic in skinny jeans with heels or flats. So in my honest opinion try them on see how they look on you take pictures of front, side and back view and decide from there. Or possibly put pictures on here for an opinion

I’m 5’3 and like wide legged trousers. But I’m larger than you (16) and so mine just fall straight down from hips which I think is the trick. Mine are also all softer fabrics too which I think helps. Those ASOS ones don’t look that great on the model IMO. My legs are short and chubby so wiser leg disguises them. My jeans tend to be skinnies though

I am under 5 foot and when I was younger I wore trousers like those with heels and thought it looked OK. Now I can no longer wear heels and I can't make that style of trouser work at all.

I think it depends on your body shape, not just height. Needs to be ground skinning with heels IMO usually

If you look at the Me&Em website pictures, they are selling tons of wide leg trousers but they are styled ground skimming with thick soles or well above the ankle. And the top needs to be fairly narrow/fitted, or the look becomes shapeless.

I’m 5ft and a big size 6 / small size 8

I have some high waist wide leg jeans and trousers from Topshop. I wear with a block heel and don’t think they look too bad!

Would it be possible for you to provide a link to the jeans you have please, blue eyed? The last time I was in Topshop, all they had were skinny jeans.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I think I’ll send the trousers back.
