What's happened to my hair?!

Throughout winter I've had a horribly dray scalp with dandruff. A lot of people on here recommended the ginger shampoo from the body shop.

It worked great to start with, but now I've gone the other way and my hair is now greasy every day. I've tried leaving it. I've tried using another shampoo instead but to no avail. I only condition the ends but the ends are dry.

Please can somebody help or recommend something to sort me out. I'm getting married in a month Confused

You could try soaking it in diluted organic apple cider vinegar before you wash it (leave it on for a couple of hours).

Have you had any diet changes? Good luck for the wedding!

Thanks @LanguidLobster

No diet changes that I think of particularly, although I am trying to cut out the crap.

Do you wear hats much? My greasy roots and dry end were caused by wearing winter hats.

It sounds like the current products you are using are too heavy for your hair. Possibly product build up - buy a ‘clarifying’ shampoo that will really clean your scalp. You don’t have to use this everyday btw - just when you feel greasy to give it a deep clean.

Going forward, buy a shampoo that is designed to lift/add volume - there won’t be as much conditioning agents so shouldn’t weigh your hair down. This also won’t be as harsh for frequent use as a clarifying shampoo would be. Buy a conditioning treatment for your dry ends (but avoid your scalp.)

For now try to wash your hair as seldom you as you can (2/3 times a week) to help recover it. The grease is your scalp going through an overproduction of moisture - your hair/scalp may actually be worn out and dry from all the washing/product build up and has overcompensated as a result

Maybe try Paul Mitchell Shampoo One, and either his detangler or 'the conditioner' very simple gentle products that will cleanse your hair but shouldn't be too heavy.

Thanks all.

I got awful scalps and use lots of medicated stuff, but the thing that really makes a difference is moisturising it. My hair obviously looks horrific after doing that and so I do it before bed and then wash it all out in the morning.
