Update on my upper eyelid surgery and brow lift - 3 months down the line

The scars are finally starting to fade so I thought I’d give an update (can’t find original thread!)

Had hooded eyes all my life, particularly on one side. Got to early forties and unless I have myself a facelift using my hair, my face looked terrible. It really hit home after a trip to the hairdresser where my hair was down and the lighting very unflattering. I came home and seriously looked into what surgery would be best.

Because my eyebrows were so low I ended up opting for a brow lift and upper eye lid surgery. Because if this I had to have a GA and actually the operation was much bigger than I anticipated. The recovery from it has been longer than I thought in terms of my nerves needing to come back to life in my head! It was very weird but thankfully everything is now back to normal.

Anyhow I’ll add some pics of before, after and now and if anyone wants the surgeons name/prices just PM me. I’m in the south east.

I think it looks like money well spent, it looks so natural.

ScreamingValenta · 30/04/2018 19:42

Two weeks off work would be feasible, thanks OP. If I did have this done I think I'd be upfront with my colleagues. My left lid is so droopy that if I wear mascara, it impedes my vision Sad. I think I might have stretched my eyelids in the days when I wore gas-permeables.

SleepFreeZone · 30/04/2018 19:46

screaming if it was just an eyelid correction then it’s done under a local abd the recovery time would be much much better. Plus you might find your stitches only need to be located across your eyelid crease and so once they heal enough to wear some eyeshadow you’re good to go!

That's useful to know, thank you. It is my eyelids more than my brow, TBH. I can't wear eyeshadow anymore as it highlights the fact that one lid is lower than the other.

Juells · 30/04/2018 20:09

Gosh, I'm surprised it's taken you so long to recover - maybe it was the brow lift that caused the delay? Many years ago I had upper and lower eyelids done, hid for a week, but after ten days I was able to go out without a problem. I guess with eyelids it's just excess flesh that's being removed, but a brow lift means the flesh has to be eased off and yanked up Grin

I never regretted getting it done. Over the years my upper eyelids have drooped a bit again (30 years later!) but if I hadn't had it done they'd be in folds hanging over my eyes, and bags underneath.

Juells · 30/04/2018 20:11

PS, I meant to say the surgery worked really well, your eyes look lovely.

notmypropername · 30/04/2018 20:20

Wow wow wow you must be over the moon. So natural looking but literally knocked 10 years off you.

Very intrigued. Can I ask how old you are?

Who did it? X

SleepFreeZone · 30/04/2018 20:24

Oh it was definitely the browlift that caused the long recovery. As you say they have to ease the muscle away from the forehead, lift it into place and attach it to the skull. It’s a much bigger operation than I ever thought! I suppose it’s an upper face lift really! Just eyelids would be so much simpler.

notmypropername I’m 43 and it was done by an NHS surgeon who also does private work.

I think it’s a big improvement. Money well spent if it was getting you down.

halfwitpicker · 30/04/2018 20:52

Not surprised it took longer to recover really, the lift sounds fairly invasive

BettyPitts · 30/04/2018 20:55

The new photos are much clearer, you look much better.

Glad it went well for you.

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy · 30/04/2018 20:57

Mind if I ask...was it costly?

SleepFreeZone · 30/04/2018 21:01

It was the price of a second hand hatchback 😜

Well, whatever! You look great, OP. Good for you 💐

LadyLapsang · 30/04/2018 22:20

You look great. Hope the last 15% of sensation comes back. Did you have any problems with dry eyes? Could you PM me the surgeon's details? Thanks.

SleepFreeZone · 30/04/2018 22:53

No problems with dry eyes no. He said you have to be really cautious not to go mad and end up with the eye being unable to shut. I was just grateful he was so conservative with his approach, I’m sure some surgeons might have tried for a more extreme end result and just screwed it up totally.

For those interested in the cost, the place I'm going to is £1800. Mr Halliwell (exceptional NHS doc) is just over £3k ish.

Bugjune · 30/04/2018 23:55

What a lovely result!

ShovingLeopard · 01/05/2018 01:37

Wow, that is an amazing job. So natural-looking, yet a lot fresher. No wonder you are delighted!

I am the same age as you, with v similar issues. Is there any chance you could pm me the details of the surgeon/costs etc?

Juells · 01/05/2018 09:30

For those interested in the cost, the place I'm going to is £1800.

That seems cheap, I paid over £1000 thirty years ago! Or is it being done under local? I had general. I know that local anaesthetics are fantastic now, very effective.

I don't see how it could cause 'dry eyes', the incisions aren't anywhere near the tear ducts etc.. On the upper lid the incisions are in the fold, well away from the eyelids, and on the lower lid they're also not near the eyelid.

pearlkent · 01/05/2018 10:59

Your eyes look lovely, but may I also ask about your lashes, also very lovely - are they all natural?

Aridane · 01/05/2018 11:06

What a transformation - and agree with the poster who commented on your lovely eye colour

WalkinglikeaFlamingo · 01/05/2018 11:07

I have to say I think you look amazing.

I've always been anti plastic surgery but at almost 46 I have the past couple of years started to think if I was to have anything done it would be my eyes.

I think your surgery has taken years off you looking at those pics.

Aridane · 01/05/2018 11:12

Oh no - now I've clicked on your pictures and commented on your lovely eye colour I am getting all sorts of ads for coloured contact lenses! Is this the way Mumsnet works on advertising, or is it just a coincidence?

SleepFreeZone · 01/05/2018 11:15

Thank you 💐💐. I’ve had a really rough few years with multiple bereavements, lots of miscarriages, my dad dying. It’s been a horrendous time and at least now it’s not showing quite as much in my face.

My eyelashes are my own! I use Maybelline mascara and an eyelash curling thing.
