GA Luminous silk or EL double wear

I’m 46, classic combination skin (slightly oiler on t-zone). The Giorgio Armani luminous silk and Estée Lauder double wear have amazing reviews. Which do you prefer? 😀

I am a double wear lover and have never tried the ga so interested to hear what others think. My Doublewear literally lasts all day and I never touch it... the coverage is amazing but I would say if you have blemish free skin then you prob don’t need as heavy a coverage so you could try the lighter one. It doesn’t feel heavy on at all though.

Luminous Silk time and time again. I couldn’t get to grips with DW, just found it too heavy and sunk into fine lines - and I’m only late 20s!

Luminous Silk gives medium coverage, is buildable and great finish, very airbrushed and glowy.

Luminous silk is great. I have combination skin and I don’t get too oily with it. I also love lasting silk.

Double wear is a heavy foundation but there is also double wear light. Doesn’t suit me as can’t find a colour pale enough.

WeeM · 30/04/2018 20:14

Double wear light doesn’t come pale enough for me either, so annoying!

NellytheElephant18 · 30/04/2018 20:15

I have DW & DW Light - both amazing! I tend to use light from day to day. Great coverage although I do use loose powder on top to ‘set’ and try to prevent shine breakthrough. I do have incredibly oily skin though!

I use both luminous silk for day time, dw for nights out

Similar age to you OP.
I have dry skin, which gets a bit oily through my T-zone over the course of the day. Quite red cheeks (sun-damage, as am vvvvv fair).

Double wear is definitely full coverage. I don't like it, as it feels like a mask on my face.
Double wear light has been my day-to-day foundation for the last 18 months.
I have trialled a few others over the last 2 weeks only due to being bored with DWL.

Claris Skin Illusion is lovely- I've worn it to a family event over the weekend- and still had full coverage at the end of the day. Smashing and am very tempted to go buy immediately.

YSL All Hours- was lovely but perhaps a bit chalky.

I had GA Luminous Silk .....which 3year old DS spilt all over my mattress only slightly bitter. It was also smashing....I can't re-buy as there is nowhere close to hand that carries it. Otherwise, I definitely would. I trialled the newer version (is it called Pillow something?) but was not so fond of it, as I was of LSilk.

DW is really heavy, and it's so hard to apply. I have to put so much moisturiser on and then put on primer, before quickly putting the DW on before it dries, otherwise it just drags over my face and does look like a mask. It's good coverage but feels very heavy.

I bought one about 2 years ago and still haven't used much of it.

I currently use a rimmel one which is easy to apply and looks good.

They’re quite different. You could purchase both for different looks, otherwise it depends on what exactly you’re after

Double wear is extremely full coverage & matte and so will be unforgiving if you have skin concerns like dry patches as it may cling onto them. Personally I find that it does flashback on me, so that’s a deal breaker for nights out. It is great for full glam, but it’s rare that I want full glam without taking a photo so it’s almost pointless? Bit of a pain to remove, I have to double cleanse every time

Luminous silk is one of my all time favourites. It’s medium - buildable coverage. Photographs beautifully and it reflects light very well - almost blurs out your flaws. Glowy finish - this combined with the lighter coverage means you don’t really get that ‘full glam wow factor’ that you would with double wear. However that also means that luminous silk can be worn at work, running errands, going for lunch etc as it isn’t heavy/cakey. Good all rounder, but I do get bored of it sometimes. I have used it for so long that it doesn’t have a ‘wow’ factor for me anymore, but it is very consistent (eg looks good on a bad skin day) and easy to apply. The same can’t be said for double wear

DW all the way, love it. Nothing else comes close.lovely finish, not cakey at all, lasts all day, and stays in place. I use It every day and Two bottles last nearly a year.

Fullfatlatte · 01/05/2018 21:42

Thank you. Think I’ll try and get a sample of both to try. The spf flashback was one of my gripes about DW so thanks for the confirmation 😀

I have a normal skin type, not oily or too dry, and I do find it difficult as I said. It also is very heavy. Depends what you want and skin type.

userofthiswebsite · 01/05/2018 23:00

ELDW is such a good foundation though it needs to run paler.

WeeM · 03/05/2018 15:49

I got myself a tester of the GA after reading this so I shall report back too!

Delatron · 03/05/2018 16:06

Luminous silk is amazing, I've never had so many compliments on my skin..
