I am one of those that dresses in black. Today I am in a black skater dress, black tights and black knee high boots. I am 33 years old and still dress like I did when I was 18.

Every time I decide to get something in a different colour, I end up talking myself out of it. Black is my comfort zone and I feel confident with it.

But as Im getting a bit older, I'm starting to feel like black is washing me out. I'm bored of black. I'm almost a goth really in that my hair is also dyed black (due to greying!)

I have no idea what colours would suit me. Or even what styles of clothes would suit me. Please help!

As said, I have black hair and want to keep it black. Brown eyes. Olive skin. I am a size 8-10. 5ft 6. I'm open to any suggestions!

You sound like me. Recently I've started wearing more red, navy, white, bright green, still wear black, but am experimenting with silk scarves for colour.
Even wearing a bright red lipstick, and red nails makes a big difference. Felt a bit cliched when I started wearing red lipstick/nails, but it works. Also earrings, but not sure where I am going with those at the moment. Maybe purple/green crystal.
I think in my case, I went back to black so much because it actually suits me, think I'm a 'winter'.

Want2beme · 30/04/2018 00:00

Take things slowly and try navy blue. I think it'll look lovely on you. Maybe introduce some earth colours, then you can start to experiment with lighter colours heading towards summer? Just a thought.

CollyWombles · 30/04/2018 00:12

I just googled my colours and I think I am definitely a winter. My veins are blue. I looked at my body shape next and I can't make up my mind. DH (delighted to join in of course) says hour glass but i don't have a small waist, though I do have one. I think maybe full hourglass rather than neat hourglass.

I think starting with a navy blue would be a good idea. The site I was on said winters are bold colours like scarlet red and fushia pink! Not sure I'm ready for that yet 🤔

DH is taking me clothes shopping tomorrow which I should be excited about but instead I'm nervous. Ridiculous!

I do have a red lipstick, but make up wise, I go for a very natural look. I use soft browns or slightly grey eyeshadow, mascara just lightly on the ends of eyelashes, a nude type of Matt lip colour and cool beige foundation. I rarely use the red lipstick, mostly because it gets everywhere!

I wear a lot of black but I also like bright blue colours on me. If I’m wearing all black for work I’ll add something like a plain turquoise scarf just to give some colour.

Tanaqui · 30/04/2018 07:27

Take it slowly- navy, forest green, maybe a dark grey, in shirts/ jeans/ skirts with a black jumper to start, then see how you feel! White is also good for an under layer so it just shows at collar and cuffs, but look out for the waitress look!

AndromedaPerseus · 30/04/2018 07:57

What’s you’re natural hair colour? as that’ll influence whether you suit black or should wear black against your face

CollyWombles · 30/04/2018 08:36

Natural hair colour is very dark brown. I'm pretty much stuck with black hair now after dying it for so many years, but I do like it black. Or maybe I'm just used to it!

I think I might try some belted summer dresses but I have problems with heel pain and leg pain so I think I should avoid heels. What sort of shoes would be a good choice if not heels. Heels is pretty much all I have ever worn, probably why I have problems now! Also my legs are terrible. I don't shave that often as no matter what I try, I get red bumps all over them and ingrowing hairs. My poor DH. I usually wear black tights as nude ones always look weird to my eye, my legs are either too light or too dark in comparison with my arms.

I have gone colour. All the wrong colours I suspect. I made the silly decision to let DH help me shop and I am now a neon glow stick.

The good news is I also got my bra size measured and after wearing 34c balconette bras for years, I am now wearing a 32DD t-shirt bra and feel a million dollars despite my glowstickness!

Stylish peoole, help me please!

I think you look great!

CalmConfident · 30/04/2018 13:28

Look ace Smile Sorting the bra situation is the foundation to all things!

Strongbeatsskinny · 30/04/2018 13:30

Look gorgeous those colours do they really do suit you.

Hoppinggreen · 30/04/2018 13:52

You look fab but is it too much of a drastic change?
Not that that’s a bad thing but if it’s too much all at once do you risk panicking and going back to all black?
Boobs look very good by the way

rightknockered · 30/04/2018 14:14

I love those colours on you, especially the green. Boobs also looking great! That shade of blue on the poster behind you would also look good on you I think, the turquoise shade

CollyWombles · 30/04/2018 14:36

Thank you, it will take a while to adjust but I am super comfy I have to say! I think it's a tad of a personal issue, before I was with DH I was in a mentally abusive relationship and ex always insisted on me being dressed to the nines. I've realised from todays shopping that DH doesnt mind me not dressing up all the time for him and it's a bit of a burden off my shoulders, bless him. I can't remember the last time I wore jeans and trainers, that's something else all together!

I am loving the boobs haha, without a bra they are pretty terrible after 4dc and with the wrong size and style u was wearing, the bras weren't improving them much, they actually have some shape now and DH is teasing me telling me he can't wait to tell his colleagues his wife has 32DD boobs! Cheeky man.

Ooh and the worst of it is, I took the black dress I wore to town out of my bag and was deciding whether to keep it. I said to DH, I'll keep it, it is quite formal so good for a funeral or interview! Then realised what I just said. I've spent years looking like I've just come from a funeral. Wow.

You are stunning. Ive recently discovered that navy and charcoal look better than black on me... Not together necessarily but instead of black

Want2beme · 30/04/2018 20:46

You look lovely. Really like the orange on you.

CollyWombles · 30/04/2018 20:55

Thank you so much! DH is massively gloating haha. I usually do everything in knee high heeled boots, it was so nice walking the dog and not having sore feet afterward! DH took me back to the shops and I now have an orangey hoodie, white too, another pair of jeans and same shoes but in pink! Eek!

Catinthecorner · 01/05/2018 00:07

I love the shoes.

That looks really good on you Smile
