Can you recommend me something 'Oceanic'

I'm not a perfume wearer , I'm thinking more showergels, scrubs, shampoo or conditioner types.

Not seaweed Grin and not coconut (though that does smell like holidays) .
More a brisk salty type , slight cologney edge.

Care to throw any suggestions at me?
TIA Flowers

Oh, yes. Got one in my Bloom sample pack last month. Terra Incognita Secret Island. And not even expensive, only £21.

Otherwise go all 90s and get ckONE.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/04/2018 18:32

For me it was Escape that had that oceanic edge. I bloody loved that in the 90s.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/04/2018 19:17

Ohh thanks (back to the 90s eh? I'm an 80s fan but that was very heady spicy scents)

Anyone know if "Rituals" has oceanic scents? I've tried the rice milk cherry blossom (white bottle) and its loveky but I cannot work out from the descriptions if any will be what I'm after ....I sense a trip to Rituals to smell them.

My recommendations would be...

Issey mayake

CK One

MMM Beach Walk

Jo Malone Wood sage and sea salt for the smell (but longevity is rubbish so can’t recommend- the perfume parlour dupe is better - also NationalTrust do a very similar dupe - smelt it today in the shop)

BevBrook · 29/04/2018 21:09

I love Issey Miyake and CKOne so am lingering here to see what else is mentioned!

LibertyBlue · 29/04/2018 21:09

And a really good one I wore yesterday is Brocard Swan Princess- £29 from Bloom Perfume shop in London (Covent Garden) they are the only stockists.

If you visit Bloom they will find something perfect for you

LibertyBlue · 29/04/2018 21:19

BevBrook if you like IM you might like M&S Autograph Isis - it’s lighter but similar to the classic IM. I think they renamed it recently due to the negative connotation of its name but not sure what it’s new name is. Anyone know?

BevBrook · 29/04/2018 21:27

Oh yes, I did try Isis once and liked it but as you say it disappeared, I don’t know if it has a new name now.

LibertyBlue · 29/04/2018 21:29

Also if you are looking for something niche- my DH has Imaginary Authors Every Storm a Serenade. It’s all marine and fir forest - I’d say it’s unisex and it smells lovely on him

One of the common features of this style is a synthetic called “calone” which smells of cucumber/ melon which conjures up the sea and marine notes to the human nose.

Despite me knowing quite a bit about this style of Perfume it’s not actually really my favourite style , although I do appreciate and wear this style from time to time.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/04/2018 21:32

I can picture a fragrance I like but I cannot remember what is is , or even if it is a perfume.

I tried the Nuxe ones , I didn't like them on first spray and even less after an hour.
I can't describe how they smelled though.

Keeps searching ...

M&S IM clone is called Aqua. Is great. Also like body shop Fijian water lotus - they do shower gel as well as fragrance

LibertyBlue · 29/04/2018 21:35

Fosco that Brocard from Bloom sounds wonderful- perfect pressie for my hubby and so cheap! How is the sillage and longevity?

pestilentialboundary · 29/04/2018 21:38

You know you said no seaweed Wink Rituals have a giant kelp and seaweed www.rituals.com/en-gb/collections/limited-editions You will need to smell it first, there are seaweeds and seaweeds.

LibertyBlue · 29/04/2018 21:40

Ah thanks Jeff for the new Isis name - will keep an eye out for it now!

OP - to my nose, the Nuxe smells more like sun kissed skin (slathered in expensive sun lotion). It doesn’t really conjure up the sea to me.

I’d suggest contacting Bloom Perfume. They could put together a themed sample box for you to try at home, with a range of salty/ water/ beach notes for you to try. They will list the notes so you can learn about what ya like/ don’t like. They can also include raw ingredients to sniff and get to know. All for around £20

TantricTwist · 29/04/2018 23:25

M&S Island Escape

Waitrose body wash sea salt and kelp.

RadioSilence · 30/04/2018 07:33

Mac do a fragrance called Turquatic which is oceanic/aquatic and really fresh and lovely. It's £20 for a 20ml bottle. I bought it on a whim but really like it for the summer.

MissMorkansAnnualDance · 30/04/2018 08:46

Bobbi Brown Beach

I agree with pp that Escape is the quintessential oceanic/ozonic perfume. I must get some, cheap as chips now, and still so evocative.

brogueish · 30/04/2018 17:31

I like Miller Harris Fleurs de Sel for this - salty, herbal, clean. Looking for it now though, I've got a horrible feeling it's been discontinued.

LibertyBlue · 30/04/2018 18:09

broguish Fleurs de Sel has been widely spotted in TK Maxx by the mumsnet perfumistas for a few months now. It’s an example of a fourgere which are not very popular these days. Yep it’s got a salty seaspray vibe about it. I appreciate it but don’t personally enjoy wearing it much.

While it is possible it’s being discontinued because it’s being sold off , the packaging has recently changed for all MH so a lot of old stock has been released at a big discount. There are other MHs being sold off in the old packaging that are definitely not being discontinued (Etui Noir).
