Looking for ladies watch recommendations

I need a new watch and am not getting any younger. So, have been thinking now may be the time to invest in a really nice watch to last me a long time.
I like metal straps, fairly chunky. However, have also always admired Cartier tank watches which have leather straps, or at least the ones I liked have. So I’m a little confused. This will be a once in a lifetime purchase. I guess budget up to £1500.
My last watch was a Breil which lasted me 11 years but it is now very scratched. I’m not really into delicate very feminine styles.
I’m thinking there may get be some great brands I don’t know about and want to research this properly! I though that S and B might be the place to ask?!

I love me Longines watch, chunky and silver. I think it’s a conquest. Well within budget. Have fun looking!

I have two at that price range, one ebel and one tag heur. My fave is the tag, but the ebel has more meaning as it was a gift. I'd have a look at both ranges. Neither are dainty as such.

I have a Cartier Tank Francais in stainless steel. I used to wear it a lot, but decided to get a Panthere last year when they were re-released and I only wear this now as I find it much more comfortable. The Ballon Bleu is a very popular model too but I'm not keen on the retro styling.

Cartier Tank solo prices are around £2000,a bit over budget but as its a once in a life time buy I think it's well worth paying more for something you will wear for many years.

AmethystMoon · 29/04/2018 21:21

Mmm Queen I’ve realised the Tanks are a bit over budget....but as you say....Grin

Now seen some lovely Hermès ones....does anyone have one? Unsure of quality of their watches? I know their bags are good!

Longines dolce vita

LadyGrey66 · 29/04/2018 21:24

I have a tag heuer Carrera which was £1600 and style wise sounds like it might fit what you're looking for.

queenofarles · 29/04/2018 21:51

Amethyst I have this weird rule . never buy jewelry from a fashion brand,Hermes bags are amazing I own a few but I would never think of buying their watches or bracelets .i think a watch is something worth investing in. And if a tank model is what you are after then there is no point in finding a cheaper one , the price difference is not that big TBH,
Have you tried looking for second hand ones?

nancy75 · 29/04/2018 21:56

I have a couple of Ebel watches, I’ve had one of them since I was 21 ( that was approx a million years ago) and it still looks like new & gets compliments when I wear it

Theromanempire · 29/04/2018 22:01

Probably not quite what you are looking for but have a look at Michael Kors Sofie smart watch. It looks like a normal chunky metal watch but is actually a smart watch and you can change the watch face to an almost infinite number of different styles/colours to match your outfit.

Different styles and metal colours here.

AmethystMoon · 29/04/2018 22:37

I think you’ve said what I feared Queen. I really want a good watch and I worry Hermes may just look good IYSWIM?
Yes, I’ve just started looking for second hand Tanks.....hoping I might pick one up that a very wealthy person has tired of after not much use Grin

I don't think you need to worry if Hermes is what you've fallen in love with. I don't own any Hermes watches, but I do have a diamond collier de chien bracelet and I think it's comparable in quality to my Cartier bracelets and a match for my Birkins and Kellys. The watches are very stackable with their leather bracelets, which I love.
