Help me get dressed for a wedding!

A friend is getting married in a couple of weeks. I've got this dress which is lovely on. I'm big and it's pretty flattering. The pattern could easily be a bit 'old' but the hemline makes it more interesting I think.

I don't really do heels - low wedges is about as adventurous as I get. I've got some tan slingback platform wedgey things, do you think they'll go?

And I'll need something to cover up with. I've got a little creamy beige cardi but that's a bit dull isn't it? I turn to frump quite easily! I know it's probably a bit old-fashioned now but I do like the thought of a wrap/shawl type effort. And I'm thinking the duck egg blue would be a nice colour to pick out (the colours don't show all that well on the website).

Then do I want something for my head? I think it might be quite a smart affair but I'm not that worried about that. I've got short greying hair which is nicer that it sounds!

Gaaaahhh!!

I am not a fan of shawls/wraps.

They're awkward to manage and women end up clutching them inelegantly.

A thin cardigan would be better....but I'd be wary of a pale colour as it will cut you in two and make you look bigger than you are.

A navy one would be best but be sure to choose a thin fabric...

Ah wise words, thank you!

I might be inclined towards a blue-grey cardigan. Boden do some cropped ones. They’re not actually that short but flattering to the waist. Nice dress. I’ve spent a long time looking for a wedding outfit, that’s lovely.

MrsArthurShappey · 25/04/2018 21:31

Navy can be hard to match can’t it? I’m really chuffed with the dress, must say.

Just remembered I’ve got a little navy cardi somewhere, I’ll see how it looks

I think a light, neutral colour cropped jacket would be good, and smarter than a cardigan, something like this.

I don’t think you’ll need anything on your head (so many people don’t these days) but perhaps some nice noticeable earrings.

PlaymobilPirate · 26/04/2018 00:05

I'd go for a lightweight blazer... cardies are a bit 'old lady'

My friend got one from wallis in cream

BigFatBloomers · 26/04/2018 00:15

I wonder if this boucle biker jacket would work. It’s an amazing price and would be really useful after the wedding, more casually too.

AjasLipstick · 26/04/2018 00:39

Funny that...I often think blazers are old ladyish.

I do think the boucle jacket would work well though.

Bouledeneige · 26/04/2018 00:59

I like the dress. I like the oasis short jacket and the style of the boucle - but I'd be worried about clashy patterns.

I'd go for a shortish grey or dark blue jacket or cardi.

MrsArthurShappey · 26/04/2018 08:27

Thanks all! My navy cardi is definitely the wrong navy. I like the idea of a jacket, the oasis one is too expensive and the new look one the wrong pattern I think. Love the style (and the price!) though.

Does everyone think tan slingback platform wedges would be ok?

I think the tan wedges sound great. I like wedges for wedding just in case you end up having to stand around on grass.

There's a nice blue boucle biker here. Would be less clashy and, even if it's not the same colour as the dress, it should tone with all the blues. It seems to be available on various websites but hte Marisota one has 20% off for first purchase.

BigFatBloomers · 26/04/2018 17:49

This cropped jacket is also quite nice in nude, pink or white.

Or a zippy navy one for £5.99 (!), but it may be the wrong blue

MrsArthurShappey · 26/04/2018 22:21

Aw thanks bloomers, I love that boucle biker jacket!!

Oh good. Me too - quite tempted!
I think you’ll look great.

MrsArthurShappey · 26/04/2018 22:37

Hi folks, me again, soz. I’m thinking of getting this necklace, what do you reckon?

OP posts:
MiniAlphaBravo · 29/04/2018 18:35

I personally wouldn’t wear a necklace with a patterned dress.

I’d also definitely wear a jacket for a wedding over a cardigan.

Maybe put the money you could spend on the necklace towards having your hair styled for the day, put in to a nice up do perhaps.

MrsArthurShappey · 29/04/2018 19:08

Good point! Maybe some funky earrings instead. I’ve got short hair so they’ll show. I remembered yesterday I’ve got a navy jacket that goes well with the dress, so I’m relieved I haven’t got to buy one. I very very rarely dress up!

Just ordered these 😍
