Are Barbours really waterproof?

I have seen one with a hood, the waxed one, on the sale. I have wanted one all my life and I can finally afford it.
What do you think of them? Also, do you think they go with dress & flat boots, or even chunky heel biker boots?
I am rubbish at style Blush

Thanks!

The waxed ones are waterproof but be aware you will need to re-wax them periodically.

And yes I like them with dress and boots, but I am a country girl and I would worry that city folks would think it looked odd.

The waxed jackets are definitely waterproof, and you can send them to be re-waxed, I’ve had mine for just over a decade and it is probably in need of its first rewaxing soon. Mine has had very heavy wear over the years as I used it for shooting as well as wearing casually in all seasons, I’ve worn it with every outfit combination possible, I think mine looks great styled with a tea dress and boots on cooler summer days. Look at kate Moss and Alexa Chung at Glastonbury, they pull it off well.

Worth a trip to the outlet/factory store if you’re ever nearby, you can get some amazing bargains.

Yes, waxed ones are waterproof and often thornproof too. They have their own distinctive smell when new, a tin of Barbour wax isn't expensive and it's an easy job to do yourself.

Wear it and be happy!

Ah brilliant advice thanks!!! I live very rurally but have an office kinda job... so I am buying it online. I also have a DS in a pram and a DD to take to school, activities etc. hence I need it to be proper water proof!
I am going to order now, exciting!

Lovely choice. Really like that.

Kione · 24/04/2018 19:20

I would've preferred it in navy blue but can't beat the price. Looks like I got the last one too!

Is the hood a popper one? If so in really, really, bad weather the join will leak. But other than that they're waterproof :)

HolyShmoly · 24/04/2018 20:58

If you are very pregnant and it's incredibly heavy rain you might get a wet spot on your tummy from where your bump has strained the zip.

Otherwise they are wonderful.

Kione · 25/04/2018 17:26

I think it is popper, not sure.
And I am not heavily pregnant and will not ever be again.

sorry, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. I love my barbour coat but arrived to work a couple weeks ago with a nice wet patch around my belly-button. I was lucky enough to get it in the factory outlet, but I would say they are worth the money.
