Pleated floaty skirts for summer

Asos isn't floating my boat and everyone seemed to be wearing them last week when it was hot. With nice sandals.... vest top... sunglasses... lovely. Any pointers please? Blue a fave colour but any colour / print appreciated. Thanks x

I can't help at all sorry but I am looking for the exact same thing! Knee or midi length, ideally not polyester! Esther Coren (The Spike blog) has a lovely one on her blog today but it's 100% polyester and I don't wear polyester EVER, certainly not in the summer when it's bound to feel all hot and clingy, no?

Cotton-mix or viscose or anything with a bit of real silk in it, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for!!

Like you OP I'm not fussy about colour or print!

I'm normal very very particular about my fabrics too, but I wasn't sure how much wear I'd get out of a pleated skirt, so bought super cheap on one of those Chinese shops on eBay for something ridiculous like £5. I get tonnes of compliments every time I wear it, I went for an emerald green.

couchtospecialk H&M have had a lot of pleated skirts in this season. They have a dark blue one like this:

Will be Polyester though...!

couchtospecialk · 23/04/2018 20:44

Ooo thanks everyone. H&M ones look good... carrie74 can you recommend any particular ebay seller? Jessicake am not too fussed about polyester but will keep my eyes peeled for recs!

Oh I love that H&M one... sod the polyester factor!! I'm going to get it!!

Agree that it's probably a good idea not to overspend on something if it's not going to be a big wardrobe staple.

Frequentflyer1 · 23/04/2018 22:26

JessiCake I have bought 3 pleated skirts from H&M over the past 6 months and they have been a god send. I definitely think it's a good idea to not overspend - gives you an excuse to buy it in another colour Grin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 24/04/2018 07:29

I think you need polyester for the pleating to hold, otherwise it won't be permanent.

emoshional · 24/04/2018 07:51

I was going to say H&M too. I tried some on the other day but they just weren't my style. They have a great range of colours and prints too. If you're a Club member there is money off and free delivery at the moment, I believe.

Welshcake77 · 24/04/2018 08:37

Another one about to suggest H&M! I got one there in a lovely blush pink last year and am going to get the pale green they now have in. It’s such a great item of clothing I have worn loads, can definitely recommend!

Those with pleated skirts... do they wash ok? What are the pleats like after washing ? Do you get flattened pleats when you sit down? (Didn't realise I had so many questions until I started!)Grin

NetVolume · 24/04/2018 10:02

I have one from new look (maxi) and next (midi) , I bought them a few years ago though.

They wash really well , the pleats stay in place.

foxychox · 24/04/2018 10:10

top tip for washing - fold the skirt lengthways a couple of times and then push down into the leg of a pair of tights. Knot this and then wash, after washing hang on skirt hanger to dry.

Had my pleated skirt (wafty grey chiffon from Next) 2 years now and still going strong!

marmiteloversunite · 24/04/2018 10:14

Thanks for the swift answers. Might go and have another look at the pleated skirts now. They always look so pretty in the shops.
