Interview outfit help, need to look dynamic 😬

I have an interview on Friday for my dream job. I don’t want to say what it is as I could put myself but it’s in the leisure industry in a business to business role for a brand which is quite vibrant and modern.
I’m far from vibrant and modern! I’m 43 , size 18 and a bit grey Grin I know I can ace the interview I’m perfect for the job but I also know the candidate pool will be strong.

I can’t do a black suit it won’t suit the brand, so I’m thinking dress and
blazer combo - maybe a bright dress? I don’t know, help!

What’s your budget?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:12

Probably up to about £80 but preferably less Smile

Loads of colours and very flattering.
Outlet/sale prices are great, even more choice in the new collections if you can spend more.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:15

I have a black suit jacket, black blazer and navy blazer as well as a couple of suits but they don’t feel right. I work from home at the moment so my workwear consists of leggings and jumpers

Havd you already got a blazer or dress that you could wear? That might be tight for both.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:17

Thanks blue I like the Brooklyn dress on there but think I’m too fat! I’m an in proportion 18 if that makes sense (fat all over Blush)

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:18

Blazers I’m fine for and lots of dresses but none quite right!

Cross posted with you! Hobbs have a sale section and they do really nice work dresses. You could see if they have a bright one to go with the black/navy blazer. Boden also have 25% off at the moment. I know they’re not exactly renowned for being young and vibrant but there are a few nice dresses on there. I’ve got this for work in green which is lovely and bright.

I love the Boden one in green that’s the kind of thing I have in mind. Do you think it’s ok for an interview?

OP posts:
EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:28

This is the kind of thing I’d wear but not sure if I’d look a bit mad in cherry print? Too much?

I’d definitely wear it to an interview.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 23/04/2018 20:30

Good luck in your interview op 🙂

I empathise with your issue as I am size 18, 43 and had an interview last week. After a 14 year career break, six month job search and 4 interviews this last one was successful! So I can tell you what I wore all sourced second hand as it happens but I looked ok I think.

Wool Jaegar jacket, blush sleeveless blouse from M&S, check pattern pencil skirt (just below the knee) also M&S. I wore navy tights and dark blue patent brogues they were both new from TKMaxx. As the rest were bought in charity shops I probably won't be able to find links. They did the trick though and I start my new job in a couple of weeks.

halfwitpicker · 23/04/2018 20:32

Totally depends on the role. Cherries could be good or awful. Might tone it down with a blazer?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:40

Well done bigmouth, that sounds like a good balance between smart and not too formal.

halfwit I’d wear with a black blazer and shoes to tone it down. The company are quite ‘fun’ and have a laid back image but of course it’s a professional job so I need to strike the balance. Day to day I’d be in jeans so I don’t feel like I need to be very formal it wouldn’t suit.
Thanks purple I might order it see how it looks.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 23/04/2018 20:42

this jacket

skirt very similar

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:44

I’ve not thought about a pencil skirt that might be an idea! I wonder if Matalan still sell the one everyone was raving about a few months ago?

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2018 20:44

I think cherries might be a bit dated.

Maybe a bold one colour dress, blazer, shoes and fab accessories?

s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/27/de/7a/27de7a007c90484d1d9a10a069da6731.jpg Something like this only a bit toned down? (So blue court shoes, less jewellery)

Strax · 23/04/2018 20:48

I think a nice bright print dress with a black jacket would be perfect.
I'm the same age, same size and went through the interview thing last year after several years as a SAHM and got the job! I almost never wear dresses so I wore blue trousers and jacket and a really colourful print shirt.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:49

questionable I did say I’m not very modern Grin
I like the idea of a block colour dress but only have grey or black blazers and shoes and I can’t really afford to buy new of both - what colour would work with grey?

OP posts:
EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:51

strax the suit with bright shirt isn’t fall back! I live in dresses but for interviews tend to revert to a black suit and I’d like to be a bit bolder for this one.
Well done on the job Smile

JennyHolzersGhost · 23/04/2018 20:51

Are the suit trousers you’ve already got still in good condition and well tailored ? If so I’d buy a fresh jacket - probably in a muted colour, maybe a cropped sleeve - and wear with a light shell top and great heels. Long pendant necklace.

halfwitpicker · 23/04/2018 20:53

The cherry dress would look good with a grey dress I think.

What shoes do you have?

halfwitpicker · 23/04/2018 20:53

From what you've said re the role cherries would work....

halfwitpicker · 23/04/2018 20:54

Re. The role, cherries

You know what I mean!

Grin 🍒🍒🍒
EnglishGirlApproximately · 23/04/2018 20:59

I have some pale grey block heel court shoes and a grey blazer. I have loads of bags and accessories so I’m ok with them.
jenny the trousers are still in good condition they’re slim leg so could work with what you’ve said. I’ve got grey and black trousers
