57 - what’s your style?

I don’t know if I need a style makeover...I am a bit boho, bit hippy, bit funky. Sometimes quite smart but im retired so I don’t need the whole corporate image thing. Hair and makeup always nice when I go out.
If you’re mid 50s plus, what’s your style?

Mid fifties, tall, hourglass.

Lots of dresses, never skirts, lots of white, tan, navy. Virtually nothing with a pattern.

Love suede, linen, leather, cashmere.

Obsessed with coats and boots!

PS if you're happy and you're wearing what works for your lifestyle, why do you think you might need a makeover?

I'm pretty much wearing what I wore in my twenties

Floisme · 21/04/2018 17:45

Slightly older - 61- and I'd describe my current style as androgyny with curves. I wear a lot of slouchy trousers with a silk shirt or deep V neck sweater and I love the style of Katharine Hepburn, also Marlene Dietrich, Cary Grant and Leonard Cohen in his old age. I don't need to look corporate (thankfully) but I do like fabrics with a bit of structure these days and I'm partial to an old fashioned gentleman's outfitters or country clothing store.

I change my style quite often, partly because my body and appearance are changing and partly because I just get bored. My many previous icons include Siouxsie Sioux, Prince and Grace Kelly.

I am 50 and like smart casual. Skinny jeans, silk blouse. I wear a lot of hush clothes.

57 here, and the only changes to my style over the last couple of years have been because I've lost some weight so have more choice about what I can buy. I also decided to cut down on black, as I felt I was only wearing it to hide... I tend towards minimalism, so few accessories, no florals and few patterns, although I'm quite partial to a stripe. Lots of straight leg jeans and trousers, but also shirt dresses, especially in the summer. I also love coats and boots - my two big purchases last year were a dark blue single breasted wool coat from Jaeger, which makes me feel amazing every time I wear it, and my first ever biker jacket (All Saints). And a pair of shiny patent leather mock croc chelsea boots with quite clumpy soles.

Also 61, I wear jeans (carefully chosen), uniqlo T shirts and cashmere sweaters, with hiking boots and lipstick, almost everyday for my life. In sludge colours because they suit my colouring with the occasional foray into full on luxe, because I love it, and I don't care that it is OTT. So I will put a velvet coat over shabby jeans, and have a huge number of scarves because those are the items that transform ordinary to thoughtful dressing. And you never outgrow scarves, whatever your size; mine go back 40 years.

OCSockOrphanage · 21/04/2018 20:27

Like Flo, most of my jeans are a bit slouchy, but that's because I am bored with skinny silhouettes. And have been for a year or two.

Thanks ever so much! I suppose I am having a bit of a crisis of confidence. I’ve always dressed nicely but I don’t know if I need a bit of a change. I don’t go to posh dos any more and don’t know.. I just need a stylist! Wink

I have no idea Grin
Retired, very tall size 14...I like cigarette trousers a la Audrey Hepburn but quite fancy a Katharine Hepburn look.
My main issue is finding things that fit.

HRTpatch · 23/04/2018 09:08

Posted too soon...always wear makeup and silver jewellery..chunky bracelets.
Recently had hair cut from a mumsy bob to a choppier edgy look which suits the texture of my hair a lot better...but I panicked as the layers were cut in!!!!

dontcallmelen · 23/04/2018 14:43

I have been giving this a lot of thought lately, due I think in part to the weather finally perking up & thinking I need some more summery clothes but I am 58, 4ft 10 & size 6, it’s really hard trying to find stuff that fits I love floaty stuff but look ridiculous in anything not fitted.
I find winter clothing easier, jeans tops cashmere jumpers/cardigans etc.
Dunno I just feel a bit lost fashion wise & my hair needs a good cut which doesn’t help.
