Summer hat advice

TolchockLovelyInTheLitso · 20/04/2018 21:17

After having brain surgery and radiotherapy, it's imperative that my scalp is protected from the sun. Most of my hair has grown back, but to be on the safe side, I'll need a hat every day in the summer.
The trouble is, I get hot very easily, and all I can find is baseball caps, which would make me look like a fat trucker, or large straw hats, which are nice, but I'd look a tit sitting on the tube wearing one, with normal clothes.
Any ideas for cool (in both senses) hats or head coverings please?

I wear a Tilley in the summer. Hope you find something comfy x

Thanks HappyGirl, that looks good, and might be easier to pull off in Tesco's.

What about a tabular printed silk headscarf? Wrap around with the knot at the rear/side with the long tails hanging down, you could put a side fringe out at the front or side tendrils. I love that look.

Primark will have heaps of straw type Panama/fedorA type hats of different sizes. I would go for a small ish one from there for just whacking in my bag.

Lastly- is a parasol an option??

Fabulous not tabular

Great ideas, thanks Lazy

I was wondering what a tabular scarf was, Atalune!

There were loads of summer hats in TKMaxx last week, straw, fabric, caps etc

I'm bald, and mostly I wear wigs, but I went to a scarf tying workshop and bought a couple of really fabulous silk scarves in duty free that I wear on days when I don't want to wear a wig. I also have a rollable panama that is handy. Agree that baseball hats and sad hair are not a good look!

The other thing I sometimes do is tie a silk scarf with tails down the back or side, and wear my wider brimmed hat on top. That combo takes away the 'bald lady wearing a big hat' look because somehow the scarf gives an illusion of hair. It also means I can take the hat off on the train/in stores etc etc, and still look fine.

I love a trilby, and have some nice soft summer ones from the mens section in M&S.

How about a cotton/linen baker boy cap?

Overall, just try any hat you see on, and buy a number of different styles for different looks - a wide brim hat looks fab with a floaty dress, but with jeans you need a different shape

I just bought a summer trilby today from Dorothy Perkins, I think a nice trilby or a summer fedora will look good with any outfit.
