Which box dye to achieve this colour?

The last box dye I used was from Holland & Barrett, Naturtint in Light Golden Chestnut. It turned out just the colour I wanted, a lovely dark chocolatety brown. That was 6 wks ago, it's washed up now. Although the colour result was spot on, I did get quite a bit of hair fall with it, more than any other brand I've used. I'd use it again but the amount of hair fall from the first use is putting me off, I've got thick hair but don't fancy pulling a load more out out the plug hole!

I've put up some pics of the colour result I'm after, if anyone can recommend an alternative box dye. I've got super resistant roots with a few greys. I've tried Olia before, Schwarzkopf Colour a Mask & semi's, all of which fail to cover my roots. My hair colour now is like a mid warmish Chestnut brown.

What's it like for covering greys or super resistant hair? Does it have a lot of red tones?

I only ask as my hair is quite warm now as it's a brown with a lot of red tones coming through which I don't want to enhance iukwim!

Following as I like a dark brown, but when it’s fades out my hairs left with a reddy tone which I don’t like. I used to have Mousely brown Haiti but at end of 6 weeks it looks like I’m now a reddish once dyes gone :(

The colour pictures you've put up are quite a warm reddy brown, so if you really don't want to enhance the red tones you need to add an ashy tone in- so a box dye in say a 4.15 would work quite well for you as it would be a dark brown ash mahongony- however the .15 would bring in a few reddy tones. If your hair is very resistant I would recommend trying majirel 4.0 (buy from online, capital or Sallys trade shop) mix this according to instructions with 20 volume peroxide and this will give a lovely dark brown. Will work out cheaper in the long run as the big bottle of 20volume will last a long time.

Thanks, lots to look into then, allthegoodnames.. that's a nice colour you have too. Twilight, thanks for the info, really useful. I just wish a permanent colour would stay permanent instead of fading out to a reddish brown! I may as well be using a semi but it won't cover my roots!

The girl is super drug told me that when you buy a brown dye it's the number after the point I.e 5.5 that puts he red tones in. So something with no red tones would be 5.0
