Sun bathing etiquette

Hi MNers, not sure what category this comes under but keen to hear others views on sunbathing etiquette.

Knowing that neighbours (and their kids) can view our garden from their upstairs window, would you consider it appropriate to sit in the garden in a bikini or bikini like bra?

I love the hot weather and enjoy the freedom of sitting out in our garden but feel a bit uncomfortable about knowing we are overlooked. I'm sure no one is interested in looking but what do you do? I'm just sitting in a chair in a swimsuit reading a book, not sunbathing topless or anything, but feels a bit weird for some reason.

I had my bikini on earlier and can be seen by three houses. I give no fucks, it’s my garden and I know they all go on holiday to places where bikinis are worn!

ClaudiaWankleman · 19/04/2018 16:58

It’s your garden, you should do what you want. A bikini is hardly offensive. Neighbour’s children shouldn’t be staring, anyway.

I've sat out in my bra before now. My garden, my choice.

I’ve got 3 kids and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid. If my kids were staring I’d tell them not to be so rude.

I am quite prudish and personally don't enjoy seeing other people with not much on, but this is your garden and if they don't like it, they can not look!

If you were talking about sunbathing topless I would say it's a bit much for uptight British folks in a suburban street.

While I would silently judge anyone wearing swimwear without swimming I don't see anything wrong with it.

I sunbathe in my garden wearing only SPF50. Haven't done so today because too busy, but probably will tomorrow.
Nosy neighbours can mind their own business.

Me and 4 month old DD have been out in the garden for most of the day, her in a nappy and me in my bikini. 3 year old DS is now naked in the paddling pool. We don’t get weather like this very often so I say enjoy it while you can.

It's your garden and bikinis are suitable sunbathing items. I'm overlooked by hotel guest rooms and wouldn't want to spoil anyone's holiday though Grin

Thanks everyone that's given me a confidence boost. I'm fine on the beach but as it's just me it out here it was a bit daunting. Next door's builders start next week but will try not to give a monkeys.
