What do you think of this dress:

Looking for something that suits both a posh ball and a serious-ish black tie dinner.

To be honest I'm completely lost, haven't had a formal occasion in years and limited fashion sense. But this dress is shiny and I like it SmileBlush

It's bloody lovely. Do it!

plipplip · 16/04/2018 22:18

The model is 5cm taller than I am. So it's not going to fit...

Any other good ideas. Or even good brands? I'd also consider cocktail length as my legs are my best feature really...

Oh cross post. I do love it.... Could it be altered you think?

gorgeous.

Luckingfovely · 16/04/2018 22:24

It's beautiful but I agree it will swamp you if you are not tall. Would cost a fortune and not really good value to alter it given all the embellishment. If you have good legs I would def keep looking for a cocktail length dress.

plipplip · 16/04/2018 22:57

Ah shame that's annoyed me. I'm not even that short - 170cm... They really should do them in varied lengths.

If anyone has seen any good cocktail dresses I'm interested, quite open minded but not strapless / spaghetti straps. I thought price was no issue until my friend recommended a brand that started at £2,000 - so price is an issue, looking around £200-400 absolute max.

Similar but short!

Luckingfovely thank you so much! I love almost every single one of those dresses.

Decisions decisions..

Yey! Order a load, try them all on, and send all but one back Smile

lalaloopyhead · 17/04/2018 08:23

That is a beautiful dress!! I like the long one much more than the shorter ones - it is so elegant and beautiful.

It is so lovely I would give it a go length wise if I were you.

KirstenRaymonde · 17/04/2018 08:26

Surely you can just get a bit of the bottom taken off?

Nanasueathome · 17/04/2018 08:29

The first one is gorgeous...but only available in size 6

CountFosco · 17/04/2018 20:15

I'd try it, there's a lot of photoshopping of models so there's no guarantee that it will be too long. It's gorgeous so worth a punt.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 17/04/2018 21:10

I haven't read all the suggestions but I think for posh ball you really should wear full length and cocktail length wouldn't be dressy enough

plipplip · 17/04/2018 21:40

Thanks pop.

I've ordered one short and one long to try and will have a ponder.. I could go for one of those high low dresses!

Urgh ladies I'm sending both dresses I ordered back. They're lovely and glamorous but totally don't go with my face... which is geeky and serious. Not down on myself, I just haven't got the film star look..

I figure I need to go librarian chic or something like that.. Fitted pencil dress, knee length but formal enough for the occasion.
